Air Serbia has put into service a second Embraer E195 aircraft (pictured) operated by Greece’s Marathon Airlines. The jet, which features the Serbian carrier’s livery arrived in Belgrade last Friday afternoon and operated its first revenue service for the airline later that day to Frankfurt. The aircraft, registered OY-GDC, is fifteen years old. It is the second E195 operating on behalf of the carrier, alongside another E190, as well as an E175, although the latter is being utilised by the carrier on a temporary basis and is due to exit the fleet next month. The two E195s operating for Air Serbia feature 118 seats in an all-economy class layout.
Another E195 aircraft operated by Marathon Airlines is due to arrive in Belgrade next month. The jet, registered OY-GDA, is currenty in Warsaw and is expected to begin operations on behalf of the Serbian carrier in November. Based on current availability in the Global Distribution System (GDS), the jet is scheduled to make its debut on behalf of Air Serbia on the morning of November 9. However, this is a tentative schedule and is likely to change. As EX-YU Aviation News learns, Marathon Airlines has also signed a contract to take over another E195, registered OY-GDB, which is also likely to be delivered to Air Serbia. All the abovementioned E195s that bear the “OY” registration are being dry-leased by Marathon Airlines from their owner.
Commenting recently on its growing Embraer operations, Air Serbia’s CEO, Jiri Marek, said, “As you notice, it is not a typical wet-lease. It is going more towards a capacity provider model, which is used in the US. The aircraft are in Air Serbia’s livery and we are currently working on damp-lease options, meaning cabin crew will be from Air Serbia and we are looking at some other functions that we can synchronise in order to make it as seamless towards our own product”. During the upcoming month of November, Air Serbia currently has the Embraer fleet deployed on 440 flight operations (the figure includes return flights). Next month, the aircraft type will be most commonly deployed on services between Belgrade and Frankfurt with a total of 29 out of 58 flights scheduled with the jet on the Frankfurt route.
How many Embraers in total do they plan to have?
ReplyDeleteSeems like they will have at least 5 - 4 E195s and 1 E190
DeleteBravo Air Serbia 🇷🇸🇷🇸🇷🇸
ReplyDeleteBravo Air Serbia, couldn't believe that hub and spoke model would work at BEG. I am amazed by the results accomplished !!!
Delete^very odd comment.
DeleteWhy can't you believe that hub and spoke could work at BEG? Are you aware that Belgrade has nearly 100 years of being a hub airport? Please educate yourself.
100 years ???
DeleteYes, one hundred. When AeroPut was founded as a private Serbian company one of the first things it did was to offer connections from central Europe especially to places like Thessaloniki. Back then the airport was located in Tosin Bunar where today stands Airport City.
DeleteAfter 1945 AeroPut was nationalized and transformed into JAT in order to fit with the new Communist pan-Yugoslav ideology. It would not be until 2013 that AeroPut's legacy as a Serbian carrier was restored.
With 20-25% of transfer traffic hub and spoke model doesn't make economic sense, but 40% of transfer traffic makes airline profitable and that result is amazing! Ten years ago BEG was dead horse begging for LCCs to take over, today JU is making LCCs life hard at the BEG.
DeleteThe seats look a bit worn but comfy
ReplyDeleteYeah older seats are more comfortable then the ones airlines use today trying to save money.
DeleteThese types of seats are much more comfortable. Unfortunately they becoming history in favour of uncomfortable slim seats.
DeleteThats what i said. I agree
DeleteNo hate, not being negative, but the 10 year anniversary headrest cover looks very cheap and the colours make it look invisible. At least put a red colour. It makes the interior too dull, especially in winter with less sunlight. Other than that, I think the JU logo sits best on the Embraer planes.
ReplyDeleteTrue dat.
DeleteJU new website is a disaster too.
DeleteAnon 9:43 - ... or you dont know how to use it ...
DeleteDefinitively is not the best I've seen. And it is questionable compared to the quality of the previous one.
DeleteAnon 10:26
DeleteIf a user has to "learn" how to use your website it means it is too different than the websites of all other airlines.
That is bad.
If i don't know how to use it, I will go to Wizzair, where I do not need a PhD to use a website!
DeleteYou definitely need to go to Wizz site if you are finding difficult to use JU web . I love their new design and how simple it is to use . I booked my flight in 30 second.
DeleteAnyway, they should have hired someone that has experience in marketing, web and UX. This really looks ugly and not like a company that has such turnover!
DeleteSince the upgrade, I'm not able to ligin into my account.
DeleteI try to rest the passowrd, and get message: Link for password resetting is sent to your mail
But even after trying five times, over three days, still no link.
"we are looking at some other functions that we can synchronise in order to make it as seamless towards our own product"
ReplyDeleteWhat exaclty could this mean?
It means they understand that the customer experience is not at all consistent across all the aircraft flying for JU.
DeleteThey need to do something about it and at the same time not cost them too much.
Just my2cents
Thanks
DeleteMy opinion is that they will eventually buy Marathon. Everything goes to that direction. Not saying that will happen for sure but would not drop that option.
DeleteWhy on earth would they do that? And in any case, as a non-EU carrier they would be unable to buy 49% of anything.
Delete@Anonymous 10:42
DeleteThat is correct.
They would get company with EU AOC and milion other possibility!
DeleteOriginal poster: onboard streaming similar to Adria
DeleteWhy would they introduce on board streaming on a wet leased aircraft first? They did announce it is coming but I highly doubt these will be among the first aircraft to get it.
DeleteWith what money??!
DeleteI also think the idea is stupid and of course is not true. But Air Serbia has generated millions in profit during Q1 and Q2. It made the right decisions in terms of its route network, building up airline partnerships and significantly cutting its costs and cost per passenger and is profiting as a result
DeleteAnon 14:57 where did you read it would be on wet leased planes first¿?
DeleteAnon 16:39 with non-Monopoly money.
Anon 16:45 JU cant put wifi on all planes as wet leases are not suitable for wifi equipment install. Streaming boxes are small, easy to install and remove and are much cheaper than wifi.
So when will streaming be available to passengers?
DeleteBravo Marathon Airlines! 🇬🇷🇬🇷🇬🇷
ReplyDeleteThey were lucky to find a partner like JU relatively soon after they were founded :D
DeleteThey were founded in 2017 fyi.
DeleteThey should dry-lease them
ReplyDeleteThey don't have flight deck crew for Embraers.
DeleteThey definitely will. The crew has to do regular training on this type of aircraft and that’s why they opted for damp-lease.
DeleteThey would need a dedicated pilot and flight attendant group to fly them.
DeleteAnd I'm not sure there are many Serbian pilots type rated for the E-jets.
There are Montenegrin pilots.
DeleteThey definitely brought these Embraer leases forward. I remember Marek said how they wouldn't get Embraer before next summer.
ReplyDeleteThe opportunity probably rose with favorable terms, so why not.
DeleteHopefully that doesn’t mean that other aircraft deliveries will be pushed back. Dry lease of A320 is really necessary.
DeleteIt won't. He said just last week they plan to add 3 A320s
DeleteBy he I mean Marek
DeleteIt is great that they are getting more Embraers. These aircraft will be useful on slimmer routes
ReplyDeleteFrankfurt is one of the slimmer routes?
DeleteNo, the aircraft allows them now to operate 10 weekly flights to FRA.
DeleteEmbraer is perfect for increasing frequencies.
DeleteWhat happend to the two A321s they wanted to get?
ReplyDeleteFrom last month
Delete"Although the jets have not joined the fleet so far, the airline still has plans to introduce them."
https://www.exyuaviation.com/2023/09/air-serbia-maintains-plans-to-add-a321.html
They’re probably still negotiating about it…
Deletethank you
DeleteTheir livery really looks best on this aircraft.
ReplyDelete+1
DeleteMaybe it's better Marathon airlines has to move their headquarters from Athens to Belgrade .
ReplyDeleteLol. You know they also operate many charters in Greece and scheduled flights from ATH.
DeleteIt's a capacity provider agreement. It's very common.
DeleteThey are an EU based operator and thus can take advantage of EU open skies agreement.
DeleteWhy would they move to Serbia?
So these planes that were formerly operated by Great Dane Airlines are actually being subleased to Air Serbia.
ReplyDeleteYes
DeleteI have never heard of this Marathon Airlines before Air Serbia started leasing their planes. How long have they been around?
ReplyDeleteThey are relatively new. They were established in late 2017.
DeleteAre the Embraers being used on some former ATR routes to increase capacity?
ReplyDeletePrague is often upgraded to Embraer planes.
DeleteTirana too
DeleteWhy didn't they also paint the E190 in Air Serbia livery? It has only the titles.
ReplyDeleteGood question.
DeleteMaybe they will replace it once more E195s arrive.
DeleteThat’s a good choice for JU!
ReplyDeleteThe plane they have needed for a long time
ReplyDeleteIt is interesting that OY-GDC has not flown since Friday and already mentioned route BEG-FRA-BEG.
ReplyDeleteI wonder why this aircraft did not receive Greek registration?
It actually wasn't scheduled over the weekend in any case. But it was scheduled for this morning's flight to Cologne but they changed the plane.
DeleteTo add, it is next scheduled in the afternoon wave around 3pm. Either Tirana or Vienna. Let's see if it performs one of those flights then.
DeleteIt will get a Greek registration before starts flying pax for JU.
Delete^ It was supposed to be on the Vienna flight but they changed it to the A319. On their website it says "JU 602, Airbus A319, Leti Marathon Airlines za Air Serbia", obviously they didn't remove the Marathon Airlines notification.
Delete@10.01 it already flew pax for JU on Friday.
DeleteTechnical issue?
DeleteSo, this plane has not flown to CGN, TIA or VIE...Actually this plane has not flown today at all.
DeleteIt looks like the aircraft delivery crew had time for one rotation before calling it a day. I suspect that they will need a few days to relocate additional crew permanently to Belgrade.
Deletewe want to see JU with more Embraers
ReplyDeleteEmbraer je gajba.
DeleteThese birds are old. 15 years...
ReplyDeleteIt makes you wonder what the future of JU's fleet will be. I don't think these planes will stick around past their 20th year. By then maybe they will order new planes but the make up of that order will be interesting, especially considering Embraers are now playing such an important part in their fleet.
DeleteSo are most JU jet aircraft.
DeleteIf they are maintained properly their only disadvantage is higher fuel burn because of their previous generation engines and higher maintenance costs compared with a newer frame.
they are not birds...it's called an airplane
DeleteYou must be fun at parties.
DeleteThe one that is still in Warsaw is already in JU livery.
ReplyDeleteDamn game too easy for a dawg like Air Serbia
ReplyDeleteDamn girl!
Deletethey are flying E and A320 to ljubljana in next days ... well done!
ReplyDeleteMy Vienna flights was changed from ATR to A319 last week. At first I thought it was because of some technical issue on an ATR but there were over 100 pax on our flight!
DeleteNice upgrades from the turboprops.
DeleteThey will hace almost the same number of Embraers as ATRs.
ReplyDeleteThey won't. They announced they signed a contract to lease another 3 ATR72-600s. Delivery Q1 2024.
DeleteOY GDC has flown one flight at 27.10 (to Frankfurt).
ReplyDeleteI have expected it will be more frequently utilised as it is actually ideal plane for many JU routes.
It obviously will be more utilised and there is obviously some issue. It was scheduled to fly on 3 roundtrips today.
Deleteobviously.
