The second Embraer E195 aircraft to be operated on Air Serbia’s behalf by Greece’s Marathon Airlines is set to arrive in Belgrade soon. The jet (pictured) was recently painted in the Serbian carrier’s colour scheme in East Midlands and has been flown to Athens over the weekend, where it will receive a Greek registration, after which it will be ferried to Belgrade. As exclusively reported by EX-YU Aviation News last week, the jet is tentatively scheduled to begin operations on behalf of Air Serbia on the morning of October 16, although changes remain possible. Marathon Airlines, which is already wet-leasing an E190 and E195 aircraft to Air Serbia on a long-term basis has also recently wet-leased an 88-seat E175 jet until the latest E195 arrives in Belgrade. The E175 is currently scheduled to operate its final service on Air Serbia’s behalf on October 15 on the Belgrade - Stockholm rotation.
The latest E195 aircraft which will join Air Serbia’s fleet is fifteen years old and features 118 seats. It initially began operations on behalf of Flybe, while its last operator was Great Dane Airlines. The jet has been stored for almost two years, since October 2021. Marathon Airlines is shaping to be a close partner for Air Serbia. The Greek carrier recently hired a number of Belgrade-based cabin crew members, which are working on the flights operating for Air Serbia. In October alone, Air Serbia is deploying the Embraers on a total of 602 flights, accounting for 65.120 seats of the carrier’s total 463.934-seat capacity during the month.
Commenting on developments at the airline, Air Serbia’s CEO, Jiri Marek, said, “Our entire efforts over the past decade have been focused on improving our services, developing the fleet and expanding the network. With over 1.400 employees, the youngest fleet in the region, a growing network of destinations and a clearly defined sustainable growth strategy, Air Serbia is entering its second decade of operations ready to adapt to any market changes, operate at a profit and constantly improve its services in the interest of passengers”.

ReplyDeleteI guess E95 are easier to fill in winter but still make more money in summer than E90 would. They might be also easier to find on the market.

It includes return flights so that is 301 roundtrips. So that is 3 roundtrips per day

DeleteI dont know why but the livery solution for the engines is still weird to me after nearly a decade. Those angles have nothing in common with the rest of the livery. Engines should be painted horizontal or fully in blue, IMHO.

DeleteJU doesn't have the needed crew to dry lease these planes. Many crew have left them since summer started. They are training new ones.

No, they are not training them for Embraers. Our future colleagues are in training right now for A319/320 and ATR.

Marathon btw offered really cheap price per block hour so they will most likely stay lot longer than it was anticipated. Also, they are not extending contracts for lots of Cabin Crew hired this year (January/February/March). One group has already being laid off.

DeleteI'm guessing that JU went into full drive hiring crew to not repeat the shortage of 2022, however they've come to a realisation that hiring crew and hiring quality crew isn't the same and are making a selection on who has performed well and who hasn't now that they have an excess number of cabin crew. This should ease things for them in preparation for the next season.
DeleteBiggest problem forward I would think are pilots. JU doesn't seem to have a cadet program which is unfortunate. Alot of cabin crew use their job as a stepping stone to becoming pilots. It would be a good way to secure future growth rather than needing to rely on foreign pilots and wet leases. Many airlines offer these programs, typically with a 5 year bond.

Why not just quit and find a job at another airline that will serve a full meal to passengers? There are many hiring cabin crew. Same goes for crew working in Middle Eastern airlines. All they do is complain, bitch and rant as if someone put a gun to their head and forced them to work there. Before applying and accepting a job, do some research about the employer. If you are not comfortable with their work practices don't seek a job there.

Toally ridiculous. First off, I was never served two Noblice, despite travelling 10-15x a year+ with Air Serbia. Though, once I did ask for seconds, and got them no issues. Water is also completely fine, and when I'm really feeling like it I order orasnica. In fact, I would only object to the fact they are not available for purchase on the ATR fleet.
DeleteThe only time I felt bad on a JU flight is actually when I was "handled" with fresh cabin crew. I was on the ATR flight with a seatmate on 4A and 4C. As we are both kind of big guys, I went to 3C, whereas 3A was unoccupied. I was ordered by cabin crew to return to 4C (on a plane that was at that point delayed for 3 hours) stating that if I wanted a specific seat, I would have had to pay for it beforehand.
I quit JU and I am moving to W6. Actually SOP was to serve two Noblice, if you were getting one then that that not how it was supposed to be.
DeleteA few weeks ago, flights MAD-MUC-MAD, Iberia, close to 3 hours, you do not even get water for free, let alone something else. I understand that people are annoyed that they get less now than what they did before, but compared to some other European legacy airlines, Air Serbia is still above average, and they claim they are looking to improve. The only European legacy that stands out is Turkish. Everything else is one step away from LCC.

DeleteAs Belgrade native but with over 15 years of US (living) and 30 years global air travel just my 2 cents and of course this is subjective......I like the livery/logo/colors but from the start what bugged me (and still does) is the font type for Air Serbia. Hope they alter it a bit as most global airlines do when they re-do logo but do not want to go nuts on it.

DeleteYou should have used an analysis of this a long time ago and taken action to add this type of aircraft to the fleet. The E190/195 was definitely needed, as we can see a very large part of the flights to the new destinations are performed with Embraer. I wonder what you would do if the destinations (between ATR72 and A319) were weak? Some would probably drop out. It's good to see that this plane is proving to be so important and needed right now. Let's hope you add at least more. Thus, JU will be able to operate weak destinations for the A319. So easy to fill those 100 seats planes.
