NEWS FLASH

Greece’s Aegean Airlines will launch a new nonstop service between Athens and Sarajevo, marking the route’s return after five years. Flights will commence on June 1 and run twice per week. Further flights details can be found here. Aegean last maintained nonstop operations between the two cities in 2019. The route was discontinued prior to the coronavirus pandemic.

Last year, Aegean introduced Athens - Skopje - Sarajevo flights with fifth freedom rights between Skopje and Sarajevo. However, the service is not convenient for inbound passengers from Sarajevo heading to Athens with an over six-hour wait in Skopje. The route will continue during the summer as well, with the transfer time in Skopje reduced to three hours on the outbound sector.

Does this mean that the SKP to SJJ flight is canceled for now and it will contunue during the summer?

Why does the flight stop in Skopje for 6 hours? Unless I misunderstood something

Because it's during the night and time is more convinient for Skopje pax. It was basically SJJ-SKP with an option to continue to ATH, it doesn't make much sense so finally they're (re)launching direct flight.

This was never a ATH-SKP-SJJ flight. It was clearly SKP-SJJ. Now ATH can have it’s direct flights

This year will be a record year for Sarajevo, I predict 1.8 million passengers. We are still waiting for WizzAir to announce where it will fly from Sarajevo.

Aegean Airlines applied for subsidies for the existing Athens - Skopje - Sarajevo route and its upkeep in summer 2024. This has been outlined in the decision made by the subsidy provider

So it basicly means this route will still maintain and the only adding will be direct SJJ-ATH so if someone travel from SJJ can choose direct or flights with stop in SKP , with probably cheaper price ?

Yes, the flight via Skopje is around 40 euros cheaper in each direction. But while Athens-Skopje-Sarajevo has a short stop in Skopje, the Sarajevo-Skopje-Athens flight currently has 6 and a half hour stop in Skopje (and 3 and a half hour in summer)

@13:14 Good at reading aren't you? Go to schedule and check what aircraft is scheduled to operate on this route.

@15:03 It all comes down to personal preference, I respect that fully, maybe that's why it's amazing to have both operating from SJJ! When it comes to Aegean I love their NEO fleet & seats especially but much of it is grounded due to P&W issues (some aircraft are flying again but some are still grounded).

Thats why Aegean pushed back a little I can't imagine what they plan when they'll have all their neos and when they'll have all new aircraft delivered. They already flying to every European capital even some where LH doesn't fly like BTS, KIV.

A3 now has flights to DXB as well, fares are not really attractive though tbh. I also figure that eurobusiness class on a flight to DXB is kicking their ass with BC tickets sales (upgrades are cheap on Aegean tho, you can literally bid eur50 and get it)
