NEWS FLASH

British Airways has expressed interest in launching flights to Montenegro in 2025.The Assistant Director for Commercial Affairs and Marketing at operator Airports of Montenegro, Predrag Hajduković, said, “British Airways has expressed interest to fly to Montenegro, which, if it materialises, would represent a big incentive for other legacy carriers and would enhance Montenegro’s connectivity to major hubs”. British Airways had previously scheduled to launch a weekly seasonal service between London Heathrow and Podgorica in 2020, however, flights were cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic. The carrier rescheduled the launch for July 2021, but the planned service was cancelled before its launch.

Judging by how BA has been doing in the region, I'm a bit doubtful

Why? They flew more than 10 flights per day every Saturday all summer. And they have been doing this for years.

Sounds good until you see daily flight count of other major carriers to Ex-Yu.

Like which ones? Austrian and Lufthansa barely fly to the region anymore and only send their sister airlines. Air France barely flies anywhere and even when it does it sends HOP.

Why is this a surprise? easyJet and Jet2 both fly from the UK to Montenegro but not to Belgrade.

Stop treating east Balkan as a third class tribe and give visa free access to the uk and these might work.

Even if they do, to which airport? LHR has far more connection possibilities, but LGW is the leisure-oriented operation.

I am sure it would be LGW-TIV. It's not a route that will be targeting transatlantic connections.
