Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport has begun preparatory work on the replacement of its two remaining old baggage carousels, over a year after three were replaced and the arrivals hall expanded. In late 2023, the airport installed new carousels manufactured by the Alstef Group. This included the first inclined dispenser carousel at the airport and two horizontal scale baggage carousels. “To enhance service quality and improve the passenger experience, preparations are underway to replace two baggage carousels in the baggage claim hall. During the upgrade, efforts will be made to maintain a high level of service for passengers. The installation of two new carousels will allow for faster baggage retrieval, increased capacity to accommodate more passengers, and an overall improved travel experience”, Belgrade Airport told EX-YU Aviation News.
The Alsted Group has replaced Belgrade Airport’s entire baggage handling system. It underwent installation in multiple phases, primarily focusing on completing the baggage handling system in the new Terminal 2 while establishing connections with the existing Terminal 1 baggage system. The on-site work, initiated in June 2022, commenced with the first departure phase in the southern area of Terminal 2. This phase encompassed the installation of 28 check-in conveyors and counters, outbound screening and sortation systems, make-up carousels, out-of-gauge lines, and roller tables. The subsequent departure phase, cantered on the northern area of Terminal 2, involved the installation of 33 check-in conveyors and counters, an outbound screening system, carousel-based sortation systems, and a make-up carousel. Simultaneously, phase three concentrated on establishing a two-way connection between Terminal 1 and Terminal 2, integrating essential systems and installing fifty conveyors. The final departures phase focused on the dedicated transfer line, comprising thirteen conveyors designed for efficient baggage transfer.

ReplyDeleteNice update. Central atrium of Nikola Tesla Square is a sore with never-ending construction. Why does it take years to open restaurants in the airlside zone? Waiting for restaurants like Ambar and Monument, to fix issues with the Plum Bar or whatever the name is. There is no progress since opening of In&Out. Summer is approaching quickly.
ReplyDeleteThe entire construction industry on the planet realised that working quickly is bad for them. If they take their time and be lazy they can charge more and more money. Seems no one can stop this profiteering and that's why the construction at the airport will take so long. I doubt they will be ready for the summer.

ReplyDeleteYes that would be a good read. An other interesting topics would be the way how they are run, like concession form, concession length and their financials. The website would be referenced in quite many academic works. :D
