NEWS FLASH

Low cost carrier Eurowings touched down in Ljubljana over the weekend, marking the start of its new three weekly Dusseldorf service. The route is being subsidised by the Slovenian government in an attempt to improve the country’s air connectivity. The inaugural flight was welcomed with a water cannon salute and greeted by airport and government officials.

The Managing Director of operator Fraport Slovenija, Babett Stapel, said, “We are excited to welcome Eurowings as the newest addition to our network, introducing scheduled flights between Ljubljana and Dusseldorf. This important route has been made possible with the support of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Slovenia’s state incentive program under the Public Call for Improved Air Connectivity. We are confident that this new service will appeal to both business and leisure travellers. In addition to exploring the vibrant city of Dusseldorf, passengers will also benefit from convenient onward connections across the broad Eurowings network. At the same time, we look forward to welcoming international visitors, who will now have even more opportunity to discover the many unique and diverse attractions Slovenia has to offer”. Reinald Frankewitz, Head of Airport and Network Relations at Eurowings, added, “Another route for Eurowings, another connection for Europe. With the new flight from Düsseldorf to Ljubljana, we are expanding our network to include another important business and leisure destination. We are convinced that passengers from both locations will be delighted with this new route. Travellers from Slovenia in particular will benefit from the 110 destinations they can reach from Dusseldorf”.

Even more, the German one is from LHG family. So high priority for FRAPORT and core of its business strategy.

Danke Deutschland is going on here, both in Slovenia with LJU and in Croatia with OU. And the worst thing is Germans don't even ask for it, they are doing it voluntarily

Good addition, I hope for them to base one aircraft for leisure destinations next year... Wishful thinking perhaps, but the one which is the most realistic for Ljubljana in terms of a based airframe

Wont happen, Fraport doesn’t even respond to queries regarding LJU - BER route. They are trying hard to protect LHG and their profits.

The route has strong demand from the Ruhr Area with roughly double the population of Ljubljana's catchment area. It's only natural that a flight originating from the less busy side of the pair would have a lower load factor, as nobody from the Ruhr was on the return service. Moreover, this is during the middle of spring and the route is not as well known

The very first rotation had an average of 102pax per flight, which on a 150 seater A319 is very decent for start of April flight. Nothing to complain about
