The former CEO of Air Serbia, Dane Kondić, has been appointed the Chair of the Management Committee of Mozambique Airlines (LAM). The Mozambican Institute for the Management of State Holdings announced this week that it has removed the carrier’s Board of Directors and named Mr Kondić to lead its recovery. The government confirmed last week that it will proceed with a forensic audit of LAM’s accounts for the last ten years and restructure the company, which has around 900 employees. The President of Mozambique, Daniel Chapo, said there are “foxes and corrupt individuals” within LAM, with “conflicts of interest” that prevented the restructuring of the company. International consultancy, Knighthood Global, which is led by former Etihad Airways head James Hogan, has been appointed by the Mozambique Government to “help revitalise the country’s national airline and broader aviation sector”. Mr Kondić led Air Serbia from its rebranding from Jat Airways in 2013 until late 2017.

ReplyDeleteIf it wasn't for them, Jat would have been liquidated by now just like MAT, Adria, B&H Airlines etc. Or at best, it would be alive but smaller than Croatia Airlines is now. Is that what you wanted?

DeleteJat became JU because the state purred hundreds of millions of Euros to it for years.
Him and Hogan wasted most of it in very loss making deals with Etihad, boutique airline and new wings of Europe concepts.
He should have been fired much sooner and we never should have gotten in bed with Etihad and its geniuses.
Vrapce Aviation Academy alumni (more likely just one professor emeritus) still unhappy Air Serbia managed to turn around, thrive and avoid Air Berlin and Etihad Regional fate

DeleteA lot of haters over here. The guy was not that bad in my opinion. At the time, no one was sure what exactly would work. He took a shell of a company that was ruined by sanctions and was part of a long process in bringing it back to its former glory. There was a lot of obstacles to deal with, from Etihad to government cronies and EU fake rules. Looking at how many of the other airlines in Europe and even in Ex-Yu fared, we came out pretty good.
ReplyDeleteAgreed. Any hate for him is not based on errors he made but for managing to save the airline competition was hoping to see bankrupt. He took that first step on the journey to where Air Serbia is now, and the first step is always the hardest
DeleteAll 3 CEOs contributed in some ways, Kondic with complete turnaround and rebranding, Naysmith with consolidation and financial recovery; and Marek for leading expansion and growth. But the other two would have been unable to do what they did if Kondic didn't bring airline from the brink.
