NEWS FLASH
Osijek Airport is undergoing a 14.3 million euro terminal expansion and modernisation project, which it expects will attract new routes and boost cargo, once a hallmark of its operations during the former Yugoslavia. The airport’s CEO, Tihomir Peljin, said, “Alongside the terminal reconstruction, which will serve as the foundation for future growth, we are currently in negotiations to both maintain existing routes and introduce new ones. These are planned to launch in parallel with the opening of the terminal, ahead of the 2026 summer season. While it is still too early to confirm specific destinations, discussions are focused on routes that match the strongest demand among passengers. The new terminal will allow us to strengthen our position amongst carriers. The introduction of new routes will undoubtedly lead to an increase in passenger numbers. Our plan is to fully utilise the capacities provided by the new terminal over the next five years".
Commenting on cargo operations, Mr Peljin noted, “The existing situation is not satisfactory, but alongside the growth of passenger services, we are also developing the cargo segment and expect the launch of the first dedicated cargo flights soon”.
Which additional routes could work from OSI?
ReplyDeleteprobably a few to Germany, but it's in a triangle between BEG, TZL and ZAG. They need to travel to get to an airport. Even southern Hungary has no significant airports AFAIK (at least where WizzAir isn't flying)
DeleteIf they offer some subsidies, JU could launch flights. Like OMO

Bravo Hrvatska!
ReplyDeleteIsnt TZL too close to OSI? Dont think this will work, Tuzla is getting so many new routes in December.
ReplyDeleteBelgrade is about the same distance, it's like 2-3 hours drive, also crossing a border. There is potential for TZL
DeleteIf OU Had any marketing they could make some routes from Osijek work other than Frankfurt. Possibly Dublin since there is a lot of dijaspora from Slavonija in Ireland?
ReplyDeleteI wonder what the cargo flights could be
