Lufthansa will average twelve fewer weekly flights to markets in the former Yugoslavia during the upcoming winter season, which runs from October 26 until March 28. The reduction is largely due to changes on the Munich - Ljubljana route, which will be partially taken over by its subsidiary, Air Dolomiti. However, services operated by the Italian regional carrier are considered its own, using separate flight numbers. As a result, Star Alliance members outside of Lufthansa's Miles & More program will be unable to earn points and benefits.
Frequency per month and change over 2024/25 winter season
The German flag carrier will also reduce operations on the Frankfurt - Skopje route, particularly in February and March, when it will maintain just three weekly rotations. The airline had initially planned to suspend the service for the two-month period but has since opted to retain limited operations during the final months of the winter season.
Zagreb will experience minor reductions on the Munich route during select months of the winter season. In December, three weekly flights will be cut starting from December 8 when compared to the same period last year. Additional reductions will take place during Christmas week, when only eight weekly rotations will be maintained. However, frequencies during the holiday season mirrors last year’s operations.
Munich operations will also be slightly reduced on the Belgrade service, with one fewer flight per week in January and February. On the other hand, Lufthansa’s Frankfurt - Sarajevo operations will remain unchanged throughout the winter with six to seven weekly flights during the season.
Please note that frequencies on select months differ from week to week. The displayed frequencies in the table indicate the prevailing number of weekly flights during the course of the month.
Lufthansa two-way capacity during winter 2025/26
Can someone explain to me what is the point of Air Dolomiti taking over the Lufthansa Ljubljana flights? What does Lufthansa gain from it?
ReplyDeleteMore passengers via FRA. Win win for Fraport and their owners.
Delete@09:02 I would suggest you think before writing comments
DeleteWell better then them reducing MUC and there being no alternative. I just don't get why LJU is the only one to have this arrangement.
DeleteLufthansa will reduce its loss at LJU, that's its gain.
DeleteDidn't realize they had losses on this route.
DeletePeople should keep in mind that Lufthansa never wanted to fly to Ljubljana. They only entered when Adria went bust.
Delete@9:07 you work at LH?
Delete@9:05 "Star Alliance members outside of Lufthansa's Miles & More program will be unable to earn points and benefits." I'm sure this will attract even more passengers!
DeleteI think with Air Dolomiti, overall capacity on Munich route will increase. But it is correct that this is considered as a different airline so overall LH decrease.
DeleteWhat is Air Dolomiti like in terms of service? Same as LH?
DeleteSimilar service (no frills) but no benefits for *A members outside LH, so I assume lower cost base for Lufthansa and this is all the point. But for me, being *A gold, it means "avoid at all cost".
Delete^ Thanks
DeleteI wonder if we will see more arrangements like this with Air Dolomiti on other ex-Yu routes in the future. It does seem overall that Munich routes are softer than Frankfurt (understandably).
I assume they will slowly migrate more flights to EN. For example GRZ is fully migrated to EN, MUC and FRA flights.
Deletewow was not aware of that. Not sure what to think of that
Delete@Anon 09:11
DeleteNo need for sarcasm, in fact it's probably exactly what Lufthansa managers (and a lot of other corporate managers) are thinking. It's all about KPI's (key performance indicators) and manager X will benefit from reducing costs of Lufthansa when they transfer the flights to Air Dolomiti.
Just look at how they created a new airline, Lufthansa City, and thought of it as a great move. In the bigger picture it's the same, but legally, Lufthansa is reducing their costs.
Also Trieste fully migrated to Air Dolomiti. There are rumours about Air Dolomiti taking over all LH flights in LJU. I like them mainly because of aircraft (E190/195) and cabin staff that is way nicer and relaxed than LH.
DeleteAnon 09:33 For big majority of passengers no big change except flying with Embrarer instead of CRJ (much better from passenger comfort point of view). For frequent flyers outside LH program (not so few flying out of LJU, keeping the status from Adria times) this is a big degradation of the service, no lounges, no miles, no priority any more.
DeleteWhere route is leaking money, mama Lufti orders its slave airlines to take over. Simple as that. They just don't want to lose city pair.
Delete^ Bingo!
DeleteJust cost control, not a big drama.
DeleteThey probably weighted all pros and cons before deciding their move.
@Anon 9:00 bigger planes, the CRJ900 has 90 seats and the E190 has 108, so Lufthansa's capacity in Ljubljana increased (I think)
DeleteIn the reservation system E195 is planned, so 120 seats. Yes, it's increasing of capacity.
DeleteNext move will be reducing frequency
Deleteif you really think lufthansa is loosing money in ljubljana than probably not even one company makes money in LJ
DeleteIt doesn't have to mean that they are pulling out of LJU if they are losing money. Probably they can make more money by utilizing the same airplane on another route, while letting the small company take over LJU.
DeleteIn fact, if they were losing money, they'd probably reduce the amount of flights, which they are not doing.
LJU is just a small feeder airport, just as ZAG. In order to make money out of LJU pax, they need to use them as feeder pax for onward route. Since Dolomiti taking over the route, but not enabling utilization of miles & more program, this clearly indicates that MUC is primary destination of major part of the pax. Luftmutti has no smaller aicraft, there is no way they are sending A319 into the battle, so they ordered Dolomiti to take the bullet. There is NO way they will make profit with larger aircraft with same frequency. This is just Fraport/Luftmutti conglomerate sitting on a route. Similar to Turkish logic - let's fly everywhere and collect as many pax as possible, regardless of the result. This is called geopolitical business reasoning.
DeleteBtw, I'll restrain from using name Dolomiti from now on, and I'll call them by what they are: Dolomutti
DeleteHahahahaha Dolomutti,.you made my day 🤣
DeleteHow dare you with those conspiracies!
DeleteAir Dolomiti are simply wholly owned by Lufthansa, part of Lufthansa Regional, so no drama, no surprise, just a redistribution among their subsidiaries.
DeleteWell not really. It's bad news for frequent flyer members of Star Alliance members.
DeleteWhy not flights from Munich to Skopje and Sarajevo?
ReplyDeleteDidn't Lufthansa exclusively fly Munich-Sarajevo before covid? Then they switched.
DeleteYes they flew MUC-SJJ. Then when they consolidated flights in FRA during Covid they transferred Sarajevo too.
DeleteThere will be demand for SKP-MUC considering the daily flights of Wizz to FMM, three weekly to FDH and now daily to FKB and STR combined. People use all four airports for that area.
Delete@13.40 because you can fly for 60€ return from those
DeleteSo if AirDolomiti are included, how many weekly flights will there be to Munich from Ljubljana?
ReplyDeleteThe same as last year.
DeleteSo they will actua upgrade as there will be more capacity because of bigger planes (E195 instead of CRJ900)?
DeleteThey won't upgrade since it's not a Lufthansa flight. It's not a wet lease or another airline just operating a flight for them like air Baltic for Swiss. It's a stand alone flight by Air Dolomiti.
DeleteThey as LH group will upgrade the service capacity wise. And all flights are code shared with LH.
DeleteNo major growth for them. Unfortunate.
ReplyDeleteIf they need more seats they can just put A321s on the route.
DeleteTrue
DeleteEvery year they schedule flights and then a month before the season begins, be it summer or winter, they reduce it.
ReplyDeleteThat's what all airlines do. It is only here that commentators go nuts if an ex-Yu airline does the same.
Delete+1
DeleteBut combined with air dolomiti there will be same, less or more flights?
ReplyDeleteCombined with Air Dolomiti it is the same on Ljubljana route.
DeleteThe cut on Skopje in February and March is really big. 7 flights less. Numbers or yields must have been really low.
ReplyDeleteFebruary and March skopje area suffers from a huge fog which stays with a days even a weeks. This results alot of cancelled and delayed flights , as well landing in near by airports as prishtina or sofia which airlines like Lufti doesnt like that at all. I am not saying this is reason number 1 bt it is also one of the reasons for this cuts as well small demands during that period if year... still better 3x weekly then no flights at all
DeleteSurprising how much capacity they have on the BEG route.
ReplyDelete*routes
DeleteThey are clearly very dominant in the whole region
DeleteIt feels Turkish and Lufthansa are sort of wrestling over the market here.
DeleteLHG and TK take the most business travelers and those that pay the most expensive ticket prices while JU and W6 fight for what's left.
Delete^^
DeleteLHG and TK offer what business pax need.
JU and W6 don't have such products or FF programs so they are fighting on a lower yields markets
Or the consistency, for that matter. Very few LCC routes in Exyu are daily, barring London
Delete+100
DeleteIs this a better coverage than TK's?
ReplyDeleteThey fly from both FRA and MUC, while TK only flies from IST, so it is logical they have more flights.
DeleteLH is one of the most overrated airlines in the world. They are living off the legacy of their famous brand.
ReplyDeleteAnd yet people keep choosing them again and again!
DeleteLHS sufferer*
Delete* Lufthansa Derangement Syndrome
So if I say an airline is overrated that is good enough for you to insult me? I think their fares are high, their cabin crew bad, they are constantly late and they offer the bare minimum of service. Am I prohibited from saying that without you insulting me? You are more than welcome to write why you love them. I certainly would not insult you for that.
DeleteVery big percantage of people flying LH don't choose LH but are literally forced to fly with them by diferrent types of blackmails on several levels
DeleteIt's not overrated, it's rated just as it is: high frequency airline with fair prices which enables you connections all around the world.
Delete@10:28 If you say anything againts LH their Fanboys will jump you.
Delete"fanboys" in insult too, why can't we communicate normally?
DeleteLH's quality has decreased significantly, but their prices are pretty fair, for what it's worth. Got a return ticket LJU-Dublin this summer for like 190€ with Lufthansa (having booked a year ahead) and LJU-BER for like 280€ with Swiss last year a week before departure in November, so their deals are definitely decent
DeleteAgree. Just bought a ticket to Larnaca for the beginning of November for 208 EUR.
DeleteReturn :)
DeleteGermans do not offer good service.
DeleteEven Germans say that.
As someone who keeps flying over Europe, I'm definitely pissed at LH's quality of service on board. But, at number of times, they were substantially cheaper than JU's direct flights (I flew LH to CDG and LIS) with a short connection, and they are well serving "secondary" airports which JU does not serve - I often fly to TLS and it's usually by LH through MUC or FRA.
DeleteWrote several times already, will write once again: One way economy AMM-FRA-ZAG, for 700+ euro. Plane was in AMM but we were over one hour delayed because the crew came late. I barely made my connection. The hardest and most uncomfortable seats with smallest pitch ever. The crew that behaved like they all have stick in their asses pretending to be astronauts on the Space ship. Totally uneatable, completely frozen tiny sandwich which all passengers threw away. Other possibility would be broken teeth. And ONE drink service where you could choose ONE drink- coffee or juice, not both, on 4+ hours flight. Disaster. Disaster. And pure disaster. Never again.
DeleteI'm really surprised they don't fly to Podgorica and Pristina.
ReplyDeleteThey barely fly to Montenegro at all.
DeleteThey use Eurowings for PRN flights.
DeleteI would really like to see more of Lufthansa mainline in the region.
DeleteEurowings has a slightly more modern fleet.
DeleteAnd ironically it will be the first airline in Lufthansa group to trial a proper dedicated business class.
Delete^ SMFH
Delete@10:22, why ironically ?
DeleteBecause it's an LCC. Out of all the airlines in the Lufthansa group it would probably be the one least expected to introduce a proper business class with proper seats on narrow body aircraft.
DeleteI wonder how many passengers LH handles to ex-yu each year.
ReplyDeleteProbably a million or so.
DeleteWhich other cities have potential for LH flights? BNX, TZL, INI?
ReplyDeleteLol
DeleteMaribor, Portoroz and Osijek.
DeleteINI for sure!
DeleteWell unlike any of those, a Lufthansa group airline is serving INI - Swiss.
DeleteSerious response, depends on what potential means. Without subsidies, year-round? Probably only Niš like thrice weekly
DeleteMy guess is next summer Air Dolomiti will completely take over MUC-LJU.
ReplyDeleteHighly possible
DeleteThey will eventually take over FRA too
Delete:(
DeleteIt's a good thing, the E190 is more comfortable and has bigger capacity
DeleteLH having constant dispute with CityLine cabin crew and pilots will lead to switch more regional flights to Air Dolomiti that will probably get Austrian Embraers planned to leave Austrian gradually form the end of this year (since OS is turning towards SN model fleet).
DeleteLufthansa IS absolutely overrated - and their management is appalling - see all issues & mistakes they have been doing with the Allegris project. My company recently got me a one way ticket from GVA to Tokyo via Frankfurt for more than 5000 CHF - all of this to fly a crappy 2-2-2 configuration in business class, with a low quality catering. One hint though - if you are Star Gold flying on an Air Dolomiti flight but with a LH Group connecting flight, you should be able to be granted access the lounge at the very first departure airport - I always ask at Trieste airport & was always granted access to the Calligaris lounge by the staff.
ReplyDeleteHopefully we will see flights from Skopje to Munich , it is in huge demand taking from that all nearby airports operated by Wizz are completely full at each flight
ReplyDeleteHopefully we will see flights from Skopje to Munich , it is in huge demand taking from that all nearby airports operated by Wizz are completely full at each flight
ReplyDeleteIs it possible for Air Dolomiti to start SKP-MUC?
ReplyDeleteI dont think so , more possible to see Lufti or Wizz air or maybe Euro wings
Delete
