Low cost carrier easyJet will introduce its third route to Ljubljana next year, adding flights from Edinburgh to the Slovenian capital. The service will commence on April 4 and operate twice per week, on Wednesdays and Saturdays, using the Airbus A320 aircraft. easyJet will face no competition on the route. The new Edinburgh service complements the carrier’s upcoming Manchester - Ljubljana flights, which launch on November 4, as well as its existing London Gatwick operation. Further flight details for the new route can be found here, and tickets are already available for purchase on the airline’s website.
These developments are part of the airline’s broader effort to rebuild its presence in Ljubljana and return to the market share it held prior to the pandemic in 2019. It is also boosting operations on its London Gatwick - Ljubljana service, offering four weekly flights in November and daily rotations in December, up from three and four weekly respectively during the same period last year. In 2019, easyJet handled a combined total of 220.174 passengers on its Ljubljana flights, with an average annual cabin load factor at a high 90%. Last year the figure stood at 80.534 travellers, with a load factor of 88.3%.
In 2019, easyJet was Ljubljana’s second-largest airline by capacity share and passengers carried, behind only Adria Airways. At the time, it maintained flights from London Gatwick, London Stansted and Berlin to the Slovenian capital. During the 2019/2020 winter season, until its disruption by the pandemic, easyJet typically operated fourteen weekly flights out of Ljubljana with over 2.180 seats on the market each week in each direction. This coming winter, based on its existing schedule, the airline will operate nine weekly rotations to the Slovenian capital with 1.520 weekly seats. It will be the country’s fourth largest carrier during the winter, behind only Turkish Airlines, Lufthansa and Swiss.
Commenting on the new route launch, the CEO of airport operator Fraport Slovenija, Babett Spatel, said, “The continued expansion of low-cost air services from Ljubljana is something we are extremely pleased about. easyJet has strengthened our long-standing partnership with the introduction of a new route to Edinburgh, giving Slovenian travellers direct access to Scotland while also encouraging more visitors from the United Kingdom to discover Slovenia. In addition, passengers from Ljubljana will benefit from convenient connections to numerous destinations across the UK and Europe, further facilitating both leisure and business travel". Kevin Doyle, easyJet’s UK Country Manager, added, "We are delighted to be offering our customers another new connection from Ljubljana to Edinburgh, providing travellers with a convenient and direct link to one of Europe’s most beautiful and vibrant cities. As we continue to expand our network across Europe, we are further enhancing connectivity for passengers who choose easyJet for our unique network, great service and competitive fares, and we look forward to welcoming them on board”.
Wow 😊
ReplyDeleteBravo Slovenija
ReplyDeleteI'm genuinely impressed, over the past month we suddenly got like 3 new LCC routes without subsidies
DeleteWhy would Fraport allow this?
Delete^ It does seem strange.
DeleteFraport is supposed to drive airlines OUT of LJU in order for everybody to fly via FRA with LH.
At least that's what an aviation expert tells us here for years.
😆
DeleteTouché!
Ljubljana getting a lot of love lately, I am beyond excited for next year!
ReplyDelete2026 shapes up to be another great year for LJU.
DeleteYesterday Wizz to Podgorica and today Easyjet to Edinburgh. Thats great news.
ReplyDeleteI wonder what are we getting tomorrow? :D
DeleteLjubljana used to have one of the best easyJet networks in the region. Maybe this is the start of a slow rebuild to those pre-Covid levels.
DeleteNot really. Split, Dubrovnik, Pula and even Zadar had more routes than Ljubljana even when easyJet was at its peak there.
Deletenext they need to add is BERLIN!
DeleteThat is a GREAT addition. Edinburgh is an amazing place to visit.
ReplyDeleteEasyjet slowly getting back to Ljubljana like when they operated 4 routes. Great news in my opinion, hopefully they add even more routes.
ReplyDeleteDo you guys think they will operate Manchester in winter and Edinburgh in summer or is it possible that MAN will get extended into summer?
ReplyDeleteIt will get extended. Flights should be put on sale within a month.
DeleteThanks, thats perfect.
DeleteBravo Fraport!
ReplyDeleteOMG!
ReplyDeleteThat means less transfer pax for LH in FRA. How did Fraport allow this to happen?
ReplyDeleteAccording to some expert they only bought the airport in order to help LH in such a major market for them like LJU 😂 and to protect them from competing airlines. 🤔
Irony aside, I think KLM is the bigger loser here. A lot of their European network is based on feeder flights to/from the UK.
DeleteNow THAT is the reason for this flight!
DeleteLHG is using U2 to fight KLM's AMS hub. I should have thought of that!
Haha love it.
Delete😁😁😁
DeleteAbsolutely amazing. easyJet, you can also give us Basel or Geneva now.
ReplyDeleteYes please!
DeleteBerline first please :)
DeleteEasyJet really seems committed to rebuilding Ljubljana. Hopefully, Berlin comes back too. That was always a popular route before the pandemic.
ReplyDelete+1
DeleteThey could also launch Amsterdam in my opinion now that Transavia is gone
Deleteuf agree - amsterdam and berlin!
DeleteThis is excellent!
ReplyDeleteIt’s good to see easyJet increasing frequencies/routes, although they still have a long way to go compared to 2019.
ReplyDeleteFantastic
ReplyDeleteLjubljana needs more of this. Consistent low cost operations. EasyJet, Wizz Air, Ryanair… whoever can bring tourists and connect Slovenians abroad.
ReplyDeleteThe first exYu capital to get this connection. LCCs are finally discovering Ljubljana again.
ReplyDeleteWould love to see them add Stansted again. Gatwick is fine, but the north of London is a nightmare to get to from Luton or Stansted areas.
ReplyDeleteEdinburgh is a great addition. Lots of interest in the region for outdoor and cultural trips.
ReplyDeleteIt’s interesting that easyJet is now Ljubljana’s 4th largest airline in winter. Just shows how limited the traffic is nowadays.
ReplyDeleteGood to see more direct UK routes. Maybe next we’ll get Bristol or Belfast?
ReplyDeleteRemember when i told you that info and all call it “kafana info” ;)
ReplyDeleteAny other routes planned? 👀
DeleteThe only info i have is that they are really working and planning on Berlin. Nothing else for the moment…
DeleteThank you for often sharing these news with us! It makes us happy.
DeleteThat is only in the domain of easyJet or the LJU airport?
DeleteDidn't you say SEN?
DeleteI did also say SEN. My initial info and post was: edi, sen, palma and tirana. 3 out of four were officially announced.
DeleteAny info of any other routes that might be happening in 2026?
DeleteThis makes complete sense, LF to London in July was above 91 % and there was 20 % passenger growth (easyJet and BAW), so the UK is doing amazing this year for Ljubljana
ReplyDeleteIt’s nice to see Ljubljana getting attention again from easyJet.
ReplyDeleteFinally something for us in the UK outside of London! Edinburgh and Manchester to Ljubljana make sense. Huge potential from both ends.
ReplyDeleteWhat’s missing now is a low cost route to Spain or Portugal. Yes I know Barcelona is starting but other destinations in Spain could work. Ljubljana needs more variety to compete with Zagreb.
ReplyDeleteMalaga could definitely work. Even Malta, Cyprus and some Greek islands.
DeleteValencia too
Deletevueling or ita to rome please ... or WIZZ
DeleteITA please, to FCO and connecting to all Italian destination.
DeleteGood to see an airline with a long-term plan. Unlike Wizz Air, easyJet usually sticks around once it establishes a market.
ReplyDelete+100
DeleteI think berlin is next… once they being back UK market where it was they will for sure start with Berlin. They planned to grow on 4pw before covid … and tbh i think slovenians really like easyjet
DeleteBerlin would be great and they could start it like EDI twice per week.
DeleteLjubljana Airport should support easyJet more aggressively.
ReplyDeleteThis is exactly the type of connection the Tourism Board should promote. Scotland and Slovenia share a lot in terms of nature and outdoor travel.
ReplyDelete+1
DeleteSo let me get this straight.
ReplyDeleteWizzair has TWO routes from Ljubljana both within ex-yu, none outside.
Easyjet has THREE routes from Ljubljana, all within UK, none outside.
2 of the 3 biggest llcs in eu with such a specific group focus and none with sparse network.
What an odd either coincide or decisions
Very interesting observation
DeleteAnd now we wait for the tender results...
ReplyDeleteHow long does this flight take?
ReplyDeleteThree hours I believe.
DeleteSo what do we have for Ljubljana for next year? Easyjet 2 weekly to EDI, Wizz 4 weekly to Podgorica and Iberia extending flights. And the new winter additions if they will get extended into the summer season. Anything else?
ReplyDeleteInterestingly ZAG has 0.
DeleteAirBaltic and Aegean increasing frequencies, Wizz to SKP increasing capacity and most likely frequency (LF for Aug is 99%), Finnair increasing capacity ... An amazing year ahead!
DeleteAirBaltic and Aegean increasing frequencies, Wizzair to SKP increasing capacity and probably frequencies (LF for Aug is 99 %!), Finnair increasing capacity ... A bright year ahead for LJU!
DeleteTake a deep breath until Ryanair/Lauda announce new wave of growth in their Zagreb base. Btw, and interestingly, LJU has 0 companies with scheduled traffic based there.
DeleteSo Zagreb is relying on one airline to deliver all of its growth?
DeleteZagreb is relying on Slovenian travelers! 😛
Deletethe most important outcome is that i have noticed people from Slovenia are starting to slowly start checking also flights from Ljubljana when they fly ... since there is now quite some cheap options ...
Delete11.58
DeleteSome people really like to play dumb : May I remind you OU started 6 new services this year, 3 of them year-round? Several other companies increased frequencies. So sorry to disappoint you, but no, Zagreb is not relying on one airline for its growth. Ryanair is stressed because it creates the biggest growth, it's LCC and comparable with Easy, and new round of growth is expected
Fares are generally affordable at the moment.
ReplyDeleteFor the summer months you can't find a roundtrip for lesa then 150€. Looks like the flights are selling preety good.
DeleteThe flights have been on sale for a couple of hours. The fare you quoted is the one they entered from the start. This is a 3 hour flight so it is going to be generally more expensive than other LCC routes from LJU.
DeleteSo they started with around 150€ RT? It is interesting to see that because you can get London (2 hours ft) RT for less than 50€, so why would they start off with such high price, do they think there will be so much demand?
DeleteBecause it's a different flight time and the fees are different at different airports. I really don't think 150 euros for 3 hour flight in each direction is expensive.
DeleteI undestand that, and neither do I think that is expensive, I just think that if those were the start prices, they could come to a lot later on
DeleteThe operating days are not great for a city break
ReplyDeleteMany British visitors to Slovenia stay longer than just a weekend, rather they tour the whole country an even wider region.
Delete@13:44 If that's the case, Wizz Air should consider launching LJU-SJJ. I know it doesn't have a base in either, but it doesn't have a base in DTM and BSL either, but it still operates a lot of W-flights through there.
DeleteSuper novica! Škoda, da ni več letov v poletnem času, ampak upam, da bo zanimanje dovolj veliko, da povečajo frekvenco.
ReplyDeleteSe veda. Pogumno naprej!
DeleteThis is a smart route. No competition and solid demand. Hope easyJet eventually bases an aircraft in Ljubljana one day.
ReplyDeleteEasy doesn't have small bases like Wizz, they even closed Venice because it was too small.
DeleteI agree with Anonymous 12:54...but easyJet does have bases in some interesting cities, so that still allows them to at least potentially build up their LJU network with a fair few interesting routes.
DeleteToday they announced a "small base" with 3 planes in Marrakech, so...
DeleteOut of the box decision.
ReplyDeleteLjubljana and Edinburgh are a good match actually.
It's a perfect mach!
DeleteBoth cities are not too big, have castles on hilltops.
DeleteMountainous landscapes with lot of green - only the weather in Ljubljana is much better.
Maribor to Aberdeen next 🙂
DeleteBravo for Ljubljana. Hug from Zagreb.
ReplyDeleteNice, but it think it won't last for more than a couple of seasons like Berlin and Paris.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately I think so too. But let's see
DeleteShould work. Service will have passengers from north and west Croatia too. ZAG and RJK have zero services to Scotland, not sure about PUY
DeleteHope it works out
