NEWS FLASH

Qatar Airways flight and cabin crew have finally departed Belgrade after being grounded in the city for three weeks due to the conflict in the Middle East. The crew that operated flight QR231 from Doha to Belgrade on February 28, the day the war broke out, as well as the crew that arrived in the Serbian capital the previous day and was scheduled to operate flight QR232 from Belgrade to Doha on February 28, departed yesterday on an Air Serbia flight to Milan as the first leg of their journey back to Doha.

A Qatar Airways A320 remains grounded at Nikola Tesla Airport. The airline is currently operating a reduced schedule with a handful of daily flights from Doha to select destinations until March 28.

I spotted them yesterday at JU check in and was wondering what was going on! They were all in full uniform. Around 12 of them or so. They looked very nice :)

I imagine it was anything but nice considering they have friends and families in an active warzone, while at the same time worrying about the long-term security of their jobs.

@14:18: You do realise that some actually move to Qatar with their families, since it’s not a commutable job?

It is anything but a vacation. It is horrible after a few days. Irrespective of where you are. You’ve got family in Doha and elsewhere across the globe. They all experience something and read something. It’s an absolute mindf*ck. Kids crying when going to bed. Wife/husband is stressed. Family is stressed. Some have their annual leave cancelled and plans ruined. No one packed their bag for 2 weeks. Spending your own money daily on food. Laundry etc. Every day or two the departure schedule gets pushed forward. Your roster blanks. What do you tell your family? When is daddy/mommy coming home? You lose flight pay. Especially for the Captain it is stressful. You are the spearhead. Everyone looks to you to provide info and sort it out. CRM, keep the group together. Keep morale up. Even when you do finally go back there are expenditures to claim back and organize. Takes days. Lots of paperwork to keep track of. Can you tell I went through that as well…

People who don't work in aviation/ flight operations only see "good sides" of the job(s) - high or relatively high salaries, good hotels, discounted tickets...Some of them are even jealous. And they have no idea how much renunciation it requires, how difficult and demanding it is, how bad it is for health, how much discipline is needed to keep doing it, how stressful it is, how much loneliness, sorrow, even tears it may produce. Even in everyday operations, not to mention situations like this. If you have experienced "holiday" like this, you would never write what you wrote. But I wish you never to experience it

Samo što su današnji mlađi mentalno puno stariji od onih rodjenih davno, u "dobrim vremenima" kada je sve bilo puno lakše i starima i mladima, pogotovo u avijaciji
