NEWS FLASH
airBaltic was the only successful bidder in Slovenia’s tenth public tender for the launch of new routes in exchange for state subsidies, the country’s Ministry of Infrastructure has confirmed to EX-YU Aviation News. The bid includes the planned introduction of flights between Tenerife and Ljubljana, set to launch during the upcoming winter season, as well as the extension of the airline’s existing winter service between Gran Canaria and the Slovenian capital.
A total of four applications were submitted as part of the tender process. The tenth call features two application deadlines, with the first now concluded, while the second is scheduled for August 31.

Moneys for guys on holiday not for Vienna, Berlin, Stockholm, Bucharest, Dublin.
ReplyDeleteWell, according to some people here the government should spend even tens of millions of Euros every year subsidizing LCCs to connect LJU with Bari, Catania, Malaga, Kos, Rhodos, Antalya etc. For the businessmen of course, who will bring billions to Slovenia.
DeleteOnce a week to these places would save Adria not Pristina and Skopje. But it is long gone.
DeleteTell me you don't know anything about airline economics without telling me you don't know anything about airline economics.
DeleteTell me airline manager.
DeleteYes. 11:57 absolutely. This is how airports in Europe work perfectly while we are increasingly left behind. Not everyone wants to holiday in HR and those places bring tourists too. Or don’t we want their money anymore?
DeleteI have a feeling this was only to create a pre election fuss, otherwise other applicants would probably go public as well?
ReplyDelete200 people in total care about this in Slovenia. Others know nothing about aviation and also don't care about it.
DeleteIs airBaltic still planning Tenerife to be two weekly? The service is so far still only scheduled once per week.
ReplyDeleteHaha bravo LHG
ReplyDeleteBravo Carte.. sorry I mean Fraport!
DeleteYou guys are so boring
Deleteit was AIRBALTIC and NORWEGIAN ...
So they lied it was for 4 airlines when it was for 4 air lines....
DeleteWhy didn't they extend the subsidies for RIX, CPH and LPA?
DeleteFour application, not four airlines. @12:53
DeleteIs this a joke
ReplyDeletePerfect article about Slovenian aviation
ReplyDeleteLHG and FP cartelism yes
DeleteWhy don't you put your name and surname on these cartel comments, so we can see how serious you are?
Delete@16:02 stop the crap please, you are anonymous also.
DeleteWell hut what 14:03 is saying gives grounds for investigations and possibly serious rectifications and yet no signs and no proof has ever been presented.
DeleteI guess there's also no corruption OU. PIR will have to elaborate :)
DeleteRubbish ffs
ReplyDeleteThis is total crap in the black box. If Slovenia really, REALLY wanted to increase connectivity, ministry would, together with Tourism board, representatives of once thriving Congress tourism and representatives of all industries which are beneficial of or need to have aviation connections, set a tiered list of cities which are important for them and supported by some rough data (like historical numbers of passengers, interest etc) and then issue a tender for those cities (or regions) together with strong propaganda for Slovenia and neighboring regions as tourist and otherwise nice destination. Also, state should appoint which connections are essential for economic, political and cultural reasons and also support those connections. Handing out small amounts of money for ANY connection and then selecting from few applicants ...that is very rigid way to do it. The results CAN'T be different from what we hear here. Not supporting Copenhagen as destination is beyond belief....

DeleteThe question is what is really missing, to justify government money to boost connectivity. The nbr 1 numbers for tourist arrivals and overnights are from Germany, Italy, Austria, Croatia, Netherlands, Poland, France, and the UK.
All those have good connections to LJU or are in reach with road traffic.
For Slovenians going on vacation u have Croatia and Italy in reach for road traffic or from TRS u can reach FCO, NAP, Sicilia, Puglia, Sardinia with nonstop flights, on top of it u have MAD, BCN, LPA, TFS, ATH, IST, TIV, DXB, TLV or u can fly to/over CDG, AMS, BRU, LHR, ZRH, MUC, FRA, WAW, BEG to reach other destinations. Same counts for intercontinental tourists, who have access via these hubs to Slovenia. For ethnic traffic u have BEG, TGD, SKP, PRN and besides this all u still have HEL MAN, RIX, EDI, ORY, SAW, CPH for additional city break tourism.
Slovenia is better connected than if u just consider the numbers from LJU Airport, cause a substantial part of the travel is being handled via TRS, ZAG (which are so close to Slovenia, that u almost can count them as SLO airports) and even VCE, KLU, GRZ, BUD handle SLO origin/dest travel. Slovenia has even the advantage of being located among tourist hot spots such as Austria, Italy, BUD and Croatia. So another part of tourism just visits Slovenia without overnight, but still spends money by food and shopping expenses and those numbers u even dont find in any official tourism statistic.
Why not leisure flights to Slovenia. There are a lot of nights spended by foreignt tourists, 13 millions that's like Denmark, Sweden, Ireland. I checked Eurostat.
ReplyDeleteI mean Slovenia is not exactly a poor country but do you really want that the government subsidizes leisure routes? Most foreign tourist do come by car..
DeleteThey come by car because they can't fly into Ljubljana.
Delete16:03 exactly. There was a poll done a few years back and most foreign tourists complained how difficult it was to fly into SLO.
DeleteAlso, the average stay of tourists in Slovenia is around 2-3 days, which means that there are many overnight stays and tourists. There are also many tourists for ome day from Croatia and Italy.
DeletePlenty of tourists who wish to visit Slovenia, plenty of money to be made. Feel free to start an airline and reap the profits.
Delete20:50 thank God you are not in charge of the country as we would collapse in two years :)
DeleteSo when there is nothing to be said against the argument, we resort to personal attacks. Got it. Have a good evening.
DeleteYour comment is supposed to be the argument? LOL!!
DeleteS takimi razpisi je Slovenija neresna. Njeni prebivalci pa hodimo v Trst, Zagreb, še celo Celovec na Ryanair. Sramota. Za v SLO je pa preslab? Lepo vas prosim. Wake up my dear Slovenians in nehajte biti taki hohštaplerji.
ReplyDeleteIf Slovenia's goal is to have 3-7 regular flights, it would be cheaper to establish an ''airline'' with one or two planes (which would be leased) on certain routes. The cheapest and best option would be, instead of struggling with subsidies.
DeleteIn kaj priporočaš? Da se spet zmeče na desetine milijonov evrov letno, da bo imela peščica izbranih lepo plačane službe? Takšen altruizem, poln nepotizma in nesposobnosti se lahko greste z lastnim denarjem.
DeleteTens of millions went because, for the first time, there were three times too many employees, and there was theft like you wouldn't believe (and there still is). We flew with an A319 to Prague (where the occupancy was about 40%). If Montenegro succeeds, we could too, but with a small number of employees and flying on routes that would be profitable, and optimizing employees (one person could comfortably do multiple tasks, instead of needing 2-4 employees for one job).

DeleteOh, and they should be held criminally responsible. Where have you seen a company buy 15 planes (like Croatia Airlines) while operating at a loss? Simply: Poor management
And you think that a country is capable of doing this now? It takes 2+ years to get an AOC. Fix the CAA first.
