NEWS FLASH
Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport will propose to the Serbian government the construction of a “Tesla Airport Walkway”, which would link the terminal building with a future railway station located approximately 500 metres from the facility. In cooperation with global consultancy Arup, which has been involved in numerous airport projects worldwide, the airport’s team has prepared a study outlining the development of the proposed walkway. Commenting on the project, Belgrade Airport Development Director, Petar Novaković, said, “Following a comprehensive analysis, including capacity demand assessments, market research and extensive optioneering, we have proposed a scalable solution - starting with an at-grade walkway and evolving into an elevated passerelle in the final phase - focused on safety, passenger comfort, accessibility, environmental considerations and innovation. A special element of the concept is the integration of Nikola Tesla’s spirit through several innovative features. We hope this idea will become a reality - if not in time for EXPO [mid-May 2027], then as part of a future airport development cycle”.

WTF? Where are the travelators?!
ReplyDeleteIt is two early for travellators. Old people and families will just have to walk half a kilometer each way.
DeleteThe TAXI mafia loves this!
This is a joke. The bare minimum would be to install travellators or even electric carts.
DeleteFolks, 500 m is not a long walk at all. It takes some 6 minutes.
DeleteIf 500m is nothing, then Podgorica has an airport rail link for some 50 years now; even the train station is named "Aerodrom"
DeleteLooks very nice
ReplyDeleteNo travelators in 2026 is a wild choice...
ReplyDeleteI think the best would be to teleport passengers from the plane seat into the train seat.
DeleteNothing says Tesla better than no escalators in 2026. Call it just Walkaway at least
DeleteMy God! Those complaining about no travelators obviously never been in Barcelona for example where you walk (walk, not use travelators) double the distance to reach metro station.... I haven't heard anyone complain.
DeleteOr Frankfurt where the train station is even on the other side of the highway, linked by corridor you have to EALK, imagine no travelators, noone complains...
There are better examples for sure like Bruxelles, Amsterdam, Madrid... But, people in Serbia deserve nothing and nothing I'd too good for them!
So what if other airports have no travelators! For God’s sake we are not all young. And even if we are imagine arriving tired having to walk from the end of the C gates (where travelators usually don’t work) all the way to the railway station with your suitcase and hand luggage. Oh and don’t forget cold or very hot weather.
DeleteThe walkway is enclosed which is visible in the photos. If you can't walk to the train station you can catch the bus free of charge in front of the terminal to the city.
DeleteInteresting. It seems the airport does not want to finance this and that is why they are proposing it to the government. If the state gives the money they will build it. Otherwise they will just move people to the station with busses.
ReplyDeleteHa ha ha what a joke. This is not in scope of airport concession. Seems like an old, rejected plan brought back to appear feasible by EXPO. It's not feasible and certainly not before EXPO. File with "rooftop terrace" and other failed promises.
ReplyDeleteAt this point all I want to know is when the shops will open and when will JU be allowed to build its new lounge.
DeleteValid concerns, but not related to news article at all.
DeleteThe new lounge is long overdue. BEG is the hub for JU - the new lounge should be a priority. Many airlines have more than one lounge in their hub airports.
DeleteThere is a higher probability of having flying taxi between train station and the terminal than having this walkway next summer.

DeleteThey can use the designers of the walkway by Delta City shopping center for this beauty.
ReplyDeleteIt would be much cheaper to just buy two electric buses and have them run trips every 5 minutes. If/when new terminal gets built, it will likely be built on top of the train station anyway, so that will eventually resolve remoteness issue.
ReplyDeleteThe train station isnt under ground. Making building on top rather expensive no? I'm sure in the end they'll use buses. But pray to god not like awful A1 minivans which would take nothing to change and yet remain a horrid first impression during busy periods.
DeleteCan't really run electric buses every 5 minutes, they need to recharge and that takes time and space
DeleteHow often they need to recharge driving 1km back and forth?!
DeleteLol good one
DeleteI dont see a problem about this, it is just an option for those who are OK with walking 500 meters. Older people can always take a free shuttle bus that will be going pretty much every 10-15 minutes. People are so spoiled :D
ReplyDeleteIts not spoiled or bitchy to note poor design and poor planning.
Deletewhat’s wrong with the design and the plan?
DeleteFrom start to finish the design and planing of the airport and the station has been poor. Its a vast improvement, but still so badly executed. People take issue with the fact that something like should have been part of the process of evaluating passenger flows and design. There is no way its going to be built by Expo and even if it does i have no faith it would actually look anything other than a concrete walkway.
Delete@16:38
DeleteYou mean the genius plan to build a train station half a kilometer away from the terminal building?
Adult educated person should know that 120kmph train CAN NOT pass near or through populated area. Unfortunately, there are still a lot of not adult, or not educated here.
DeleteStupidy at it's pick.
ReplyDeleteTo many potencial problems, and zero thoughts of end user's. They should better just buy 4 electric buss create just leane for them and let it work. Similar to the parking one but just electric.
50 years ago ZRH airport built the train station under the airport. Imagine if they would have taken the concesion over Tesla airport...!!!
ReplyDeleteTrain station is not part of the concession and the airport had no say in where the station would be built.
DeleteZRH was part of the consortium bidding for BEG airport but their bid didn't include train station.
DeleteBefore I ever read the first comment I knew half of the comments would be people criticizing this plan. Nothing is good enough for the Balkan mentality.
ReplyDeleteUp until the railroad link was disclosed people were complaining about why there was no railroad link and how it would never happen.
I am certain that once this walkway is completed there will be a host of new complaints and criticism.
Its not a balkan thing. Critique of bad design and bad planning is a universal thing. And there is ample material for that here.
Delete@Miroslav
DeleteJust don't pay attention. We in Serbia are delighted that this project is advancing so quickly and accurate. Those criticising are not from Serbia, thus irrelevant
This walkway should be closed and with climate control. Imagine walking here at winter, rain or during scorching Belgrade summers.
ReplyDeleteExactly!
DeleteIf you bothered to look at the photos, you would see the walkway is enclosed.
