Air Dolomiti will launch flights between Munich and Zagreb during the coming winter season, gradually replacing its parent company, Lufthansa, on the route. This will not be a wet-lease arrangement under which Air Dolomiti operates flights on Lufthansa’s behalf, but a standalone service carrying Air Dolomiti’s own flight numbers. The change will result in some minor differences for frequent flyer members, as well as reduced capacity.
Air Dolomiti will commence operations on October 25 with a daily service operated by a 122-seat Embraer E195 aircraft. The flights will initially run alongside Lufthansa’s six weekly services, bringing the Lufthansa Group’s combined frequency on the route to thirteen weekly.
Lufthansa will operate its final flight between the two cities on December 31. Air Dolomiti will continue to maintain a daily service thereafter, reducing the Lufthansa Group’s overall frequency from thirteen weekly flights to seven, as outlined in its flight reductions to the Croatian capital this coming winter. Lufthansa previously made a similar arrangement in Ljubljana. Air Dolomiti took over the Munich route during the previous winter season, before Lufthansa returned for the summer. However, the service will be suspended during the coming winter.
Passengers travelling with Air Dolomiti between Munich and Zagreb will be subject to the airline’s own fare conditions, while Air Dolomiti will also handle disruptions and passenger claims. Miles & More earning will not change, with passengers continuing to collect the same miles, points and qualifying points as they would on Lufthansa. Most status benefits and connections through Munich will also be retained. Differences include companion seat-selection benefits and recognition by other Star Alliance loyalty programmes, as Air Dolomiti is not itself a Star Alliance member.

Well Lufthansa Group is doing well but Lufthansa itself is not. Spohr has destroyed it so people don't feel like it's worth paying more to fly with them. This is something shareholders will care about, LH's loss was big.

Ok then look at the reports from previous years. Lufthansa on its own is hardly a profitable operation.
DeleteThis is bad news but not unexpected. Lufthansa seems to have lost a lot of customers to Ryanair but also to Lufthansa which introduced flights to places like Barcelona, Madrid, Stockholm, Berlin... so there is less need to transfer in Germany.

ReplyDeleteIt's not really minor, this is horrible news for Star Alliance FFP members outside of Miles & More. EN flights give zero miles and zero status benefits. I would absolutely change my travel patterns because of this (as I did in the past when LH pulled the same trick with LIN flights).
That is why people will choose to fly with OU, benefits are much, much better.

And some years ago I booked an economy LX flight (the second leg OPERATED by Edelweis) only because I thought i will be able to use my TK status and I only found out at the airport when I wanted to get into the lounge that the second leg is not really an LX leg but Edelweis´ flight, regardless of the fact that I had an LX ticket (ticket number), with both legs designated as LX and the second leg stated as "operated by" Edelweis). I didnt get any miles and no status perks. The same story will be with AirDolomiti.

DeleteAir Dolomiti isn't selling them on their website either. Did they cancel LJU? They don't offer it on their website, not even as a destination. Seems like Air Dolomiti will focus on P2P and transfers booked via Lufthansa.

DeleteWhen someone reduces flights it's not good, but 3 daily between Zagreb and Munich is still preety good for connecting to whereever you wanna go..and if this stays for some time, OU and Dolomiti will sign a codeshare bc it benefits both OU and LH.
