| Lisbon - Zagreb route to be terminated in late March |
TAP Portugal will suspend services from its hub in Lisbon to the Croatian capital at the end of the 2015/16 winter season. In a short statement to EX-YU Aviation News, the Portuguese carrier said, "From March 27, TAP will no longer have flights to/from Zagreb". Ticket sales for dates thereafter have been suspended. The Portuguese carrier will still offer connections via Zurich, where it will place its flight number and designator code onto Croatia Airlines' service between Zagreb and the Swiss city. As a result, Zagreb will no longer have nonstop flights to Lisbon. The Croatian capital was TAP's only destination in the former Yugoslavia. The airline is maintaining three weekly flights on the route this winter season.
The decision to suspend Zagreb from its network was first announced in June 2015. During the week, TAP announced the renewal of its regional fleet to harmonise with its mainline commercial identity, and a redesign of its products and services through new interiors and an updated digital platform. A new fleet of eight ATR 72 and nine Embraer E190 aircraft, branded TAP Express, will be added to the regional fleet. TAP expects to improve its annual operating results by sixty million euros with these improvements. However, despite the introduction of some new services, TAP will suspend flights to Bogota, Manaus and Panama City, along with Zagreb. In 2015, the Portuguese government approved the sale of its national carrier to the Atlantic Gateway consortium led by David Neeleman (CEO of Brazil’s Azul and founder of JetBlue), who has spearheaded these changes.
TAP has had little success in the former Yugoslavia. In January last year it suspended flights to Belgrade after just five months of operations, citing high seasonality and poor loads during the winter. In 2010, the Portuguese carrier also operated seasonal summer flights from Lisbon to Dubrovnik. Despite the suspension, so far, two new airlines have confirmed their arrival into Zagreb next summer, with Czech Airlines to introduce four weekly flights from Prague on April 27 with a mix of ATR 42 and 72 aircraft and Air Transat, which will launch a one weekly seasonal service from Toronto on June 14 with an Airbus A330-200 jet.

I will be curious to see how OK does in ZAG. Their fares seem to be more than ok, they charge €152 for a return flight. They are not the cheapest but this is so much less from what they used to charge in BEG.
They refused to code-share with JU so who knows... maybe at some point they also return to BEG.
It's a route that could get feed on both ends. Now, the unfortunate thing for the passengers is that they will be connecting onto Air India.
With all the new destinations announced, it makes me wonder how LOT plans on making it all work with 'just' 6 B787.
I think that JFK, ORD, LHR, and YYZ will be good markets out of DEL for LO.
By GCM, DEL to JFK is only an additional 3.1% distance via WAW. DEL to YYZ via WAW is only an additional 4.8% and DEL to ORD via WAW is only an additional 6.4% distance. DEL to LHR via WAW is the same distance as non-stop. The shortest route between Delhi and London overflies Warsaw.
WAW is in a great position to capture India to North America traffic. The only other hubs that are more convenient, from a geography standpoint, are Moscow and Helsinki.
If LOT can make their costs incredibly low, this might be successful. If not, they will quickly realize why so many airlines failed in DEL.
Airlines such as Emirates, Qatar, British Airways, Finnair... all rely, to a certain extent, on premium passengers travelling to/from DEL.
Lot has a decent enough product on their B787 so I am sure they can get quite a few passengers, especially with the feed Air India can provide them with.

The reliability of the old fleet is awful.
Etihad CEO Hogan says flights from BEG to YYZ and ORD might start within 2 to 3 years from now. I dont get the logic here since would that not be too late? Unless they are not planning an Asian destination, why wait so long for expansion in American continent. Of course I understand they have to test the market and see how NYC flights will go, but regardless 2 to 3 years seems too late to me.
Treba zameniti 5 Atr i dovesti jos 6 E195.
Ja sam cesto namerno lupetao razne destinacije da bi malo ove posebne zezao.,

I would take his words on next destination with a grain a salt. As a reminder, he talked about ORD, not JFK, as JU's first destination in North America. On 14 May 2014 he said: "We will launch new routes and Chicago is the first destination we are thinking of. It is a logical choice since it is home not only to the largest Serbian diaspora but also others from the former Yugoslavia” source: http://www.exyuaviation.com/2014/05/faa-to-make-serbia-decision-in-july.html
Second A330 was announced for later this year and there are different opinions on the purpose. Vucic hinted on 9 Nov 2015: "The next long haul service could be Beijing. We talked about this" source: http://www.exyuaviation.com/2015/11/air-serbia-tipped-for-big-announcement.html
We had opposing announcements from GoS reps and EY/JU reps before, it is possible they are shifting gears on the fly or simply trying to keep things under wraps for now.
Two scenarios are possible:
Second A330 is going to be used to start PEK in late 2015 or early 2016, with YYZ and ORD opening in 2-3 years; or:
Second A330 will be used to start ORD and YYZ earlier than 2-3 years from now, perhaps as early as 2016.

Thanks for correction, I did mean 2016 and 2017. It should say: "Second A330 is going to be used to start PEK in late 2016 or early 2017, with YYZ and ORD opening in 2-3 years; or: Second A330 will be used to start ORD and YYZ earlier than 2-3 years from now, perhaps as early as 2016"
To add, once JFK is operational and second A330 is available ORD should be an easy addition, no further approvals are needed. However for YYZ additional Transport Canada approval is needed.
I think Zagreb will have very impressive growth in the later part of this decade with at least 4 million passengers by 2020.
