NEWS FLASH

Czech commuter carrier Silver Air will be adding a new seasonal route from Lošinj Airport next summer, with two weekly flights to be maintained from the island to Venice starting May 24. The airline launched operations in Croatia this summer and became the first foreign carrier to operate domestic flights within the country. During the 2019 summer season, Silver Air will continue to maintain flights from Lošinj to Zagreb and Lugano, in addition to the new Venice service, but will discontinue operations to Pula and Split. The airline will utilise the twenty-seat L-410 Turbolet aircraft on all flights.

Lošinj Airport

Lošinj Airport opened in 1985 for general aviation purposes. It announced a multi million euro upgrade project in 2016 which was to be completed by the summer of this year, however, construction work never commenced. The project included the lengthening of the runway from the current 900 to 1.800 metres, which would enable it to cater for larger aircraft with the capacity to seat up to 180 passengers. A new terminal was also to be built. The project was labelled of strategic importance for Croatia and was valued at 35 million euros. It was to be carried out under a public-private partnership with Jadranka, a local operator of several hotels and villas, and the municipality of Mali Lošinj as the principal stakeholders. In January, the Croatian government removed the airport from a list of strategically important state-run companies, paving the way for its full privatisation. Lošinj Airport handled 6.901 passengers during the January - November period, up 14.3% on last year.

Details for the new Lošinj - Venice service can be found here.

Nice job LSZ! This region will also be booming. Another exciting year for Hrvatska.

Lets also wish Bihać all the luck with the new, upcoming terminal:

We will see ... for me, the price of 460 Euros for return ticket (230 Euros for one-way) looks rather discouraging ...
