NEWS FLASH

Italy is expanding a list of countries from which planes won’t be allowed to land. These include Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Serbia, Macedonia and Montenegro. Other countries on the list include Armenia, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Brazil, Chile, Kuwait, Moldova, Oman, Panama, Peru and the Dominican Republic. Individuals who have been to these countries in the past fourteen days will be denied entry into Italy or transfer through the country. It comes after Austria recently introduced a similar ban. The new measure, in place until the end of the month, will affect airlines operating from the region to Italy, including Air Serbia, Montenegro Airlines, Ryanair and Wizz Air.

So Austria, now Italy, what is next?

Now you can see, what is benefit membership in EU. Croatia and Slovenia does not have that ban.

Or maybe because Croatia and especially Slovenia have less cases of COVID-19 than Bosnia, Serbia, Macedonia and other countries on the list?

Most likely because Slovenia (neither Croatia for that matter) don't have the same case numbers as those countries. But anyway, I hope these bans are lifted asap, since it's very frustrating to see all of this.

Despite Sweden being an EU member state many EU countries still ban travel from Sweden.
EU membership has nothing to do with it, just Covid-19 infection rate.

Italy still allows travel to Bulgaria. It is Austria and Greece that have bans in place.

NOTAM is now published prohibiting direct or indirect flights from "Armenia, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Brazil, Bosnia Herzegovina, Chile, Kuwait, North Macedonia, Moldova, Oman, Panama, Peru, Dominican Republic, Serbia, Montenegro, Kosovo" for the period 16-31 July.

Also, any passengers who have stayed or transited through these countries are forbidden to enter Italy. Some special exceptions apply

This is crazy...as if they can lock themselves up forever. Corona will be back in Italy with or without these flights.

It will be back but not as fast. That is the purpose of flight bans, quarantines and social distancing. To slow the infection rates so that hospitals can cope with the sick.

In stead of eating lasagna all day and drinking vino, Italians should get serious and start preparing for a new round of corona attack.

What a heartless comment. Italy is doing quite well right now with all measures still in place: masks indoors, fiscal distance, sanitation in public places etc. Yesterday I was in Dolomites, strict measures even above 2000 meters in places like bivouac where there are practically no people. They were hit hard and they learned the lesson. I feel much safer here on a holiday than at home in Croatia. And yes, until there is no vaccine, the only possible solution is – like through all the history – isolation/quarantine. If the country with coronavirus problem doesn’t do it, others will: Slovenia was the first that imposed strict measures for ex-yu countries, all the others are now following.

Crazy has been the covid policy in the balkans. As if it couldn't touch them. Big tennis tournament organized with public. That's the result, so blame yourself, not the countries trying to stay a bit safer.

At the same time flights from Croatia are allowed which has a larger percentage of infected based on the number of people tested than any of the countries on the ban list.

I just can not believe some people here. Do you guys ever read anything in the news not jist from your own countries? Like comparing info sources?
Covid is real and serious. Travel ban is a list of not succesful countries e.g. hence no entry. Countries have just two choices; put other countries on the list or find themselves on somebodyies list.
