Portorož Airport to get scheduled flights

Swiss Flight Services will commence scheduled flights between Portorož and Bern this coming summer. The airline will maintain a one weekly service between the two cities, each Tuesday, starting August 23 until October 4. Flights will be operated by the Beechcraft King Air 350i aircraft, which has the capacity to seat nine passengers. Further flight details can be found here.

Portorož Airport handled 27.517 passengers last year, without having scheduled flights. The result is almost on par with the pre-pandemic 2019. The airport wants to lengthen its runway in order to handle larger aircraft and attract more commercial flights.

    Hilarious. Scheduled service and you can not even find Portorož listed on skyscanner search engine. Just another spin of the owner and his management - Kranjc.

      Portoroz had best results along with losinj I think and had nearest pax nummbers to years beffore. Yes you can't commpare 9 pax to 40 from atr, but it's very nice to see something happening.

      The new 600 variant that Air Serbia acquired recently has a takeoff boost function which could lessen or even completely remove these restrictions. From wikipedia: "The ATR 72-600 features several improvements. It is powered by the new PW127M engines, which enable a 5% increase in takeoff power via a "boost function" used only when called for by takeoff conditions."

    Unfortunately 1200m long runway is too short for something bigger. They need at least 1800m.

      maybe they need it, but they will never get it. Safety and landscape wise is impossible to extend it.

      Not fully true and anything is possible if the money and interest/support/lobby is there.

      Let's not forget that EU aids need to be spent on something and Portoroz runway extension will get there sooner or later.

      By relocating the Slovenian border crossing and road leading to it more eastwards, job is done.

      Landing distance from the south will remain the same, as the mentioned landscape cannot be changed. But take off distance will be increased. And both landing and take off distance from the north will be increased.

      So doable it is, question is how essential it is and how you sell it to the politicians and the public...

      Acctualy, 1500m runway is enough, but yes I agree, hillsa rround make it harder, but I am 100%shure that special route could have be done, let's say from sea side and than the right turn...

      Lcy has buildings arround and has 1500m runway, and has 4.5° approach.

      But as we are in slovenia nothing of this will happen.

    As it looks, it's charter package flights for Belpmoos Reisen AG and can only be purchased in combination with selected accommodation.

    I don't think that pax eating their (true Slovenian) Poli salami sandwich will be seen on board these flights! XD

      No as, it's purpose it's to get swiss people from Bern to Pow and not slovenians to bern. I think that slovenians won't go there as much as swiss will come to POW

    Mali je broj aerodroma u ovom delu Evrope (ako ih ima) da su ograniceni prosirenjem. Prvenstveno piste. Portoroz tako veliki potencijal, a tako ogranicen. I ako su aerodromi Trsta i Pule veoma blizu, sa pistom od 1800 metara Portorozu bi omogucen saobracaj milion putnika +. Tako veliki potencijal, a tako veliko ogranicenje. Nove generacije aviona omogucice visestruko sletanje u odnosu na sadasnju. Vera i nada nikad ne da umiru. Vec pobedjuju tegobe i ogranicenja. I pod ovim uslovima
    Portorozki aerodrom je primer i potencijal Slovenije.

      And as long as the governement is paysing ALL the operative costs of the airport! Every year they 0.5mio EUR. EVERY YEAR. So Kostić can have his own airport.
