NEWS FLASH

Finnair has pushed back the resumption of its seasonal service between Helsinki and Ljubljana by just over two months, with flights now due to commence on June 1. Initially the service was scheduled to be restored after more than two years on March 28. Operations will be maintained four times per week until the end of the 2022 summer season on October 29. On the other hand, the Finnish carrier will inaugurate seasonal flights to Zagreb from May 1, with the service to run three times per week until September 29. Finnair is among the hardest hit European carriers by the ongoing war in Ukraine and the closure of Russian airspace to EU carriers, forcing it to add hours onto its flights to the Far East. The carrier has established itself in recent years as a transfer airline between Western Europe and Asia. Finnair has reduced its overall operations and estimates that ninety to 200 pilots, as well as 150 to 450 cabin crew, will be laid off as a result.

Makes sense. AY keeps postponing to resume a number of key routes to far east. KIX in APR, NGO, HKG in MAY and HND, CTS, UK in July. Only 4 daily to NRT and 3 daily to ICN currently.
