NEWS FLASH

Turkey’s TAV Airports has extended its twenty-year concession of Macedonia’s two international airports by two years in a development that could set a precedent for other concessionaires around the world. TAV Macedonia and the Macedonian Ministry for Transport and Communications extended the concession period until June 2032, as part of force majeure compensation resulting from the two years of operations which were severely impacted by the coronavirus pandemic - 2020 and 2021. TAV Airports assumed the concession of Skopje and Ohrid airports on March 1, 2010. The concession was originally to end in June 2030. TAV has previously signalled it is willing to extend its concession past the twenty-year period.

Macedonia probably did nothing to prevent this, because I am doubtful something like this would be allowed anywhere in the world.
