Air Serbia has become the seventh airline to commit to operating out of New York JFK’s New Terminal One (NTO), set to open its doors in 2026. It joins Etihad Airways, Air France, KLM, Korean Air, LOT Polish Airlines and EVA Air. Valued at 9.5 billion US dollars, NTO will serve as a global gateway to the New York metropolitan area and plans to set a new standard for world-class design and service, aspiring to be among the top ten airport terminals in the world. It will feature 23 gates over 2.4 million square feet of space. The international-only terminal will be the largest at JFK when completed, occupying the footprint of the current Terminal 1 and the former Terminals 2 and 3.
Commenting on the development, Air Serbia’s CEO, Jiri Marek, said, “We are very happy and looking forward to the opening of the New Terminal One at New York John F. Kennedy International Airport. Partnership with The New Terminal One is a testament to the continuous improvement of our services and commitment to customer satisfaction. We are convinced that the cutting-edge technology, streamlined processes, and enhanced amenities of the New Terminal One will redefine the way of travel and conveniently make enjoyable journeys for our passengers”. CEO and President of The New Terminal One, Gerrard P. Bushe, noted, “As we advance towards our scheduled opening in 2026, our momentum to become JFK’s terminal of choice for global airlines is accelerating. We thank the team at Air Serbia for placing their trust in The New Terminal One and look forward to welcoming them on board”.

They can build the terminal with gold and I will still refuse to fly out of JFK or LaGuardia. Nobody from upstate NY, or NJ or wants to deal with the traffic in NYC, the bad road and bridge infrastructure, nor the high cost of bridge tolls. Newark Airport remains the only viable, reasonable option to fly overseas and AIr Serbia refuses to even consider one weekly flight.

DeleteThere is literally zero reason for them to fly to Newark. They don't even have a daily flight year-round. Plus their partners American and jetBlue operate out of JFK.
DeleteIt would be interesting to see some concrete data on how many people from the tri-state area use EWR instead of JFK to fly to BEG, and then how many of the latter use YU vs other carriers. As the OP correctly observed, a person living in NJ has an option to drive an average of 30 mins, use one of LH group's flights with an 1 to 1h30min layover and pay 20% premium, or drive 1h30min, pay tolls and extra gas, and use either a direct YU flight at 20% premium, or one of LH group or TK flights at base price. This is, of course, a p2p scenario. For transfers, there are more variables which make the choice even more complicated.

ReplyDeleteEtihad is one of the three anchor tenants at NTO, so maybe Etihad and Air Serbia get a bit cosier again. I guess Air Serbia will most use the Etihad lounge at NTO.
ReplyDeleteTerminal Jedan na JFK jeste pravi centar u USA sa koga ce poletati Er Srbija slaveci svoju Prvu Stogodisnjicu. Izuzev Er Srbije, retko koja avio kompanija ce poletati sa istog terminala sa stogodisnjicom svojeg postojanja.

DeleteHow does this make sense for connectivity from other cities in the USA if their codeshare partner Jet Blue operates out of Terminal 5? The New Terminal 6, also opening in 2026, will be connected to Terminal 5 post security. New Terminal 1 will be more fancy than New T6, and great for point to point passengers to BEG, but terrible for connecting passengers from other US cities
