Air Serbia is preparing to incorporate Embraer aircraft into its fleet as of next Monday, with Frankfurt tentatively scheduled as its first destination. Later in the day, the 108-seat E190 aircraft is expected to operate flights from Belgrade to Bucharest and Nuremberg. Although exact details of the incoming jet have not been revealed, EX-YU Aviation News learns it will initially likely be part of some form of wet-lease arrangement, meaning a foreign carrier would provide the aircraft, crew, maintenance, and insurance. However, unlike previous such arrangements, Air Serbia is also selling business class seats on the Embraer-operated flights (first row).
Air Serbia’s Embraer deployment from Belgrade
Based on current scheduling, Air Serbia is expected to add another E190 to the fleet from mid-June, as well as two dry-leased 118-seat Embraer E195 aircraft from July 1, although this is subject to change. The E195s are set to make their debut on the morning services to Frankfurt and Milan respectively. In line with those plans, the carrier has begun advertising job vacancies for type-rated Embraer E190 and E195 captains and first officers. The arrival of the aircraft would mark the first time the airline has operated Embraer jets, with the carrier previously wet-leasing the type.
Air Serbia itself has not commented on the introduction of Embraers into its fleet. Its CEO, Jiri Marek, recently said the carrier would soon introduce a new aircraft type into its fleet, noting that further details would be made public shortly. In its previous wet-lease agreement with Marathon Airlines, all the Embraer jets were wet-leased. Since Air Serbia severed ties with the Greek carrier in February, two Embraer aircraft that were operated by the airline remain in Belgrade, including the damaged jet involved in the accident, registered OY-GDC, which is expected to be written off following the completion of an ongoing investigation, and another E195 frame registered OY-GDA.
In the meantime they managed to find a second E90. Congratulations to the JU fleet and network department on this success, they are doing a fine job. JU definitely needs as many Embraers it can get.
ReplyDeleteAnd what if they could get a hundred, would they need it?
Deleteno need to be so sarcastic. @11:19.
Deleteand at the rate that JU is growing. if they have a good plan to become a genuine regional hub for the JUG nations and the balkans then in 10 - 20 years they could be in position to need close to 50 embraers
50 Embraer!? Not sure they will be able to park all those in BEG.
DeleteOnce BEG reaches the 15 million mark. Maybe around 2030 then they will need to start planning the next expansion of the airport
DeleteI think the C expansion with two or three extra gates would be enough. Please be mindful of the fact that these extra gates also include bus gates downstairs.
DeleteInteresting that they plan to sell business class on these planes.
ReplyDeleteWhy not?
DeleteThat's because Bulgaria Air offered it, they got those planes with all the necessary equipment. JU is not really focused on business class product at the moment.
Delete^ they are selling business class on the dry lease E195s too. So I don't know what you're on about.
DeleteHow many planes will they get from Bulgaria and will they be on dry/wet lease or will they buy them from them. Because according to planespotters.net these planes belong to Bulgaria Air.
DeleteRead the article. They won't buy any planes.
DeleteFrom what I know one is coming LZ-SOF, all other planes are flying normally for Bulgaria Air. Only one has not flown since yesterday, maybe they will get that one? Though it might not be the case y'all.
DeleteJU can take advantage of these machines because this year Bulgaria Air is getting their replacement - the A220-100.
DeleteBulgaria Air LZ-SOF is currently in Poland it seems, but it used to fly for TAP Portugal, when they did not have enough planes. Famous Swedish pilot Mentour explains perfectly well about: WHY are Airlines STEALING each others Airplanes??!
Deletehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y0sAr2QToEo
I wonder if the Bulgaria Air plane will be painted in JU livery.
DeleteIt will probably have AirSERBIA sticker.
DeleteWhat's there to get ready about. It's not that they are introducing a new type into the fleet.
DeleteYes they are. It is a completely new aircraft type in their fleet that their crew has never operated. If you had read the article past the headline you would have understood.
DeleteThey are literally hiring Embraer pilots for the first time. So yes they are getting ready for a new aircraft type. What a stupid comment.
DeleteLet's hope they have better luck than they did with the open day for pilots when there was barely anyone.
DeleteSo I'm guessing that Bulgaria Air E190 is really destined for JU. Is it still in Warsaw?
ReplyDeleteYes, LZ-SOF is in Warsaw since 8 March.
Delete* 6 March sorry
DeleteNext time, please be more careful with dates
Delete+1 I agree, those dates really confused me.
DeleteSecond E90 is also from Bulgaria Air.
DeleteDo you know which registration by any chance?
DeleteDidn't ask, all I know is that what they are saying here at BEG.
Delete9: 46, Basically old Bulgaria Air Embraers are registered after its cities: LZ-SOF, LZ-PLO, LZ-VAR and LZ-BUR: Sofija, Plovdiv, Varna and Burgas.
DeleteThat's cool
DeleteMuch needed
ReplyDeleteWeren't the two E195s originally planned to arrive in June? Looks like they pushed it back by a month. Probably need to find crew.
ReplyDeleteE95s were supposed to arrive in July from day 1.
DeleteFirst one sitting in BEG since January
DeleteThey should of stayed with Marathon, it would of saved all of this disruption and cancelled flights.
ReplyDeleteWell they definitely needed to consolidate and pull the brake a bit in 2024 so this Marathon near miss disaster was hopefully wake up call to high ups to start to pull they shit together before shit hits the fan.
DeleteThey need to find a way to keep people from leaving. Their HQ lost so many employees since covid.
DeleteDude, what's with the ofs?
DeleteWhat do you mean by ofs?
DeleteOf stayed, of saved...
DeleteSo what, there was really talk here about how JU is going to fail this year, I see no lie in his comment.
ReplyDeleteNo one said they were going to fail but they failed to make a wise decision regarding Marathon.
DeleteWas wise ever in touch with anything related with the Balkans?
DeleteThey made the right choice, They probably saw what was happening with the bookings after the accident. They had to react.
DeleteThey did not have to react because a drop in the bookings happens to everyone after they kill or almost kill 100+ people. The storm passed and they created a mess for themselves.
Delete^ It is great that you are the expert and know best with literally no evidence.
DeleteWhat evidence beyond them butchering their network do you need? Evidence is there you are just too passionate about JU to see it.
DeleteYou obviously missed the moment when JU management created an entire mess when tehy rushed to terminate the Marathon contract. Air Serbia was forced to wipe off all growth it planned. Marek did say he wants to be Wizzier than Wizz so cancellations and overall chaos point to the fact he is being successful in his plan.
ReplyDeleteI've flown six times with JU in last month (3 return flights). To me surprise all flights were on time. Yesterday we even departed ahead of schedule. Seems to be a much calmer and normal situation than last year.
DeleteThat has to do with Menzies which is running the show on the ground now. BEG and Vinci were useless and clueless so it's good that they are out of the picture. Issue is that planes keep on breaking down especially ATRs.
Deleteaccording to the article, JU will have 4 embraers by the end of the summer. but this time they will be dry leases. so JU has done well to get the aircraft so quickly and with the 3 new atr they will be starting the winter season with larger fleet than last winter and defintely better prepared for summer 2025
DeleteYes, winter 24/25 should be strong.
DeleteTwo will be dry and two will be wet.
DeleteThe capacity of these planes is well suited for JU and certain routes. Hope they keep them in winter.
ReplyDelete+1
DeleteWhich route will have the most Embraer capacity?
ReplyDeleteFrankfurt, Milan, Bucharest, Mostar and Podgorica form the top five, although Frankfurt is well in front of the rest.
DeleteThanks very much!
DeleteThough I guess OMO is the only one to have it 100% of the time?
DeleteOMO is all Embraer except for the inaugural which is on A319. Apparently Vucic will be on that flight.
DeleteThey use it so much on FRA route. It was the case while they had the Marathon planes too.
DeleteBecause it is ideal for the route and the increase in frequencies on the route to 13 weekly.
DeleteAnd makes them more cometative with more frequnecies.
Delete*competitive
DeleteBulgarians old Embraers with low cost economy seats feeling like seating on a bench. :D
ReplyDeleteLike any other short haul aircraft in Europe is better (except TK & Aegean).. Everybody has Recaro seats & 29 inch pitch these days.. Not that you need much more for 1-2 hour flights honestly (except if you are very tall in which case I would give people extra legroom seats for free tbh, lol)
DeleteTo correct my 09:53 comment Recaro slimline*, Recaro seats by default are not bad (CL3710 are dope for long haul) but these slimline seats are the standard ones for Europe
DeleteThose "low-cost" Embraers benches are just reliable as the ATRs- Precisely, because of the solid design of the Embraer, Marathon survived. They are a smaller manufacturer, but the safety record is impeccable. Bulgaria Air have been flying those machines for 12 years and so do other airlines like LOT or Belavia. There is a very good reason why LOT still use E170 and E190 series.
Deletethin leather cover on a hard base. You ass would be very uncomfortable even on 1-2hours .
Deleteflew on them and I did not find it different than the A320 neo of LH. It's like you seat only on silk at home. Funny!
DeleteAnd as there wouldnt be the possibility to take pillows with you.
DeletePeople just have to be more creative and adapt..
"Low cost embraers" what does that even mean?
DeleteThe problem with current seats is that they are very hard on the seating area. Give me 1cm of padding behind my back but don’t torture us under our bums.
DeleteWill this allow them to increase frequencies/open new routes or is it going to be used to maintain current schedule?
ReplyDeleteI think it is to maintain current schedule and increase capacity on certain routes where ATR is too small.
DeleteDespite apparent wet lease of 1-2 Embraers, it's odd Air Serbia is displaying the flights on their website as "Operated by Air Serbia" even though it actually won't be.
ReplyDeleteMaybe it is some sot of damp lease. So Bulgarians provide flight crew and maintenance, while Air Serbia provides cabin crew. I just read Qatar Airways is doing something similar for IndiGo. They are damp leasing their B737 MAXs, providing cockpit crew and maintenance while IndiGo provides its own cabin crew.
DeleteMarathon was also damp lease and it was also displayed operated by Marathon Airlines. Obviously that dry lease is postponed and we'll see last minute (wet lease) equipment change. I guess that's why the airline hasn't issued any official statements regarding this topic yet.
DeleteDon't spread misinformation. Marathon Airlines was a pure wet lease. A leasing agreement isn't determined by whether you paint an aircraft or not. It is determined whether cabin crew, flight crew, maintenance and insurance are provided by the airline. In the case of Marathon Airlines it was a pure wet lease with all services provided by Marathon Airlines.
DeleteDry lease is not postponed at all. It was scheduled from the very start from July. Again, please don't spread misinformation. Ask if you don't know.
Marathon was wet lease not damp lease.
DeleteThe plan was for it to eventually become a damp lease.
DeleteWill the 2nd E190 be a dry lease?
ReplyDeleteI think the plan is for both to become dry leased eventually. That is why they are currently hiring Embraer pilots.
DeleteSo Embraer will operate Mostar flight after all :D
ReplyDeleteYep
DeleteI think the first E190 will arrive tomorrow and will be in service like article says Apr 15.
ReplyDeleteWell it has 4 more days to arrive.
DeleteHope they consider the E2 at some point.
ReplyDeleteIf they ever plan buying their own Embraer jets.
DeleteMaybe if the management changes.
DeleteGod I hope it does change.
DeleteSo 2 E190s and 2 E195s. Not bad.
ReplyDeleteSo they're two aircraft short from originally planned?
DeleteSeems like that. Maybe they could bring back MRS now. E190 seems to be right solution for it
DeleteThat's why they had to reduce schedule compared to original plan from a few months ago.
DeleteJU really needs buy their own aircraft. I bet that they could get a COMAC C919 for a great price right now, as it would be great advertising for the company. A win for both JU and Comac.
ReplyDeleteOMG!
DeleteYes, they are tripping over themselves to get Comacs...
DeleteFinally, so the first one should arrive any day now.
ReplyDeleteApparently might be as early as tomorrow.
DeleteI hope they reintroduce Florence and Marseille,
ReplyDeleteThose two are much needed.
They obviously were not performing that well if they discontinued them.
DeleteMRS was worst performing route from last summers expansion unfortunately. The flights to Nice don't help this route.
DeleteYes but with Embraers it could actually work.
DeleteMaybe they return eventually but definitely not this summer.
DeleteFlorence may restart upon arrival of new ATR's, Trieste also. As far as I remember, they cut TRS due to plane shortage, not poor LF. MRS be also nice, even next summer
DeleteNope. TRS was cut due to low loads, there were between 10 and 20 passengers per flight.
DeleteWonderful news!
ReplyDeleteThe Embraer would actually be perfect for INI flights.
ReplyDelete+1
DeleteGod forbid that they install softer seats in economy , real businesses class seats and better catering.
ReplyDeleteForget about it my friend. You are asking too much from them.
DeleteSeems like JU cuts have created a spillover effect onto other airlines:
ReplyDeleteLH from MUC today A321 and A320.
LO from WAW B7M8 instead of E75
