Wizz Air Abu Dhabi has suspended all flights from the Emirati capital until June 27. Citing the situation in the Middle East, as well as airspace closures, services between Abu Dhabi and Belgrade, as well as Abu Dhabi and Sarajevo have been cancelled, with both due to be restored from June 27. Following a tumultious night on Monday, June 23, operations from the Gulf states have mostly returned to normal after Israel and Iran agreed to a ceasefire in hostilities. Since then, Iraq, Israel and Iran have also reopened their respective airspace for the first time in weeks, although most airlines continue to avoid the latter.

DeleteThis is such as stupid decision that I have no words. Especially now when things are relatively back to normal in terms of airspace. They were operating flights yesterday but today when flights are operating normally they are the only one to suspend flights and they are going to keep it going for a week.
ReplyDeleteWhen you sit at the front of that cockpit and get "danger pay" for flying through an area affected by missle attacks from both ends, you can decide if you want to continue to fly there or now. I applaude Wizz for the decision they made.

DeleteMy guess is that passengers are cancelling their flights and bookings are way down.
DeleteAlso, I suppose airlines are avoiding certain airspaces so there might be ATC delays which might result in the payment of compensations. Then there is also the question of insurance premiums which might have gone up since hostilities started.
There could be a million different reasons. However, knowing Wizz Air, I think money is somehow the reason.

ReplyDeleteThe company will give you the best confirmation. I understand the confusion since this article was originally about how Wizz Air Abu Dhabi will halt operations, but during the day the company seems to have reversed the decision and the article was subsequently change.
DeleteWhat now??? I can see everything is canceled for tomorrow on Wizz homepage and AUH airport from Wizz. And I can only read this "news" on this website.. Everybody else still stating until June 30th
