NEWS FLASH

Sweden’s Braathens has filed for bankruptcy for its Braathens International Airways subsidiary, ceasing all operations with immediate effect. The development impacts the carrier’s seasonal flights from Oslo, Gothenburg and Kristiansand to Split. For the 2025 summer season, Braathens International had 26 scheduled Croatia operations, offering a total of 3.744 seats on the market. As this year’s flight program was nearing completion, the bankruptcy will affect only two final services, one each from Oslo and Kristiansand, both of which were scheduled for October 3.

Airlines in Europe have been going bankrupt every single year. Just like the rest of the world.
Airlines in Europe will continue to go bankrupt every year. Just like the rest of the world.

What actually maters is the overall European market. And it has been growing every year since the pandemic just like it was growing every year before it too. Same as the rest of the world.
Only exceptions are Russia and Belarus but they only have their leadership to blame.

I challenge anyone to choose a year in the 21st century and I will tell him which European based airlines seized flying.

Probably the start of winter season is the moment when airlines realized they won’t make it and it’s time to stop making losses.

It was announced a few months ago that they'll divest from the Airbus operations.
Probably going through bankruptcy is financially more interesting than a clean shutdown.
Less to pay to the workers.
In the last 20 years how many airlines started and shut just at the end of the summer.
Aircraft being leased not much that can be seized.

I don't think that any of them could afford to buy one, even if they are being sold as part of a liquidation at a discount.

I think the aircraft were all leased, so I don't expect them to be part of the bankruptcy process, but that the lessors take them back and lease them out at market rates. They are all around 18 years old, though.
