Sarajevo Airport has registered a second consecutive month of declining passenger figures on the back of the ongoing crisis in the Middle East, which has resulted in fewer flights to Bosnia and Herzegovina’s capital. The airport welcomed 284.301 passengers in July, representing a decrease of 2.8% on 2025. At the same time, aircraft movements decreased 7.4% to 2.254. During the January - July period, Sarajevo Airport handled 1.244.923 travellers, an increase of 0.4% compared to last year or an additional 4.605 customers.

This is not going to be a good year for Sarajevo, especially this winter.

Also, there is not enough income in Bosnia. There is not that much traffic from Sarajevo to other places, due to low income.

You also have to keep in mind that the war in the Middle East has caused many tourists to stay away. The fact that European tourists have more than made up for it is pretty remarkable.

DeleteReally funny how it's always the same people dissing the market. It's not the market, Sarajevo will bounce back when it starts subsiding flights at the same level as Skopje, Prishtina or Podgorica that aren't any richer and have s smaller or similar catchment area.
DeleteThe organic grow of tourism in Sarajevo is higher than anywhere in those cities. It's actually a miracle that the Airport recorded only a small dip and still has more passengers than in 2025. despite hundreds of thousands cancelled Gulf seats. They introduced enough new lines to reach 2.5M in a perfect world, but things happen and let's hope they learn from it.
These commentators were the same one saying SJJ will never reach 2M mere 3 years ago.
what is really funny: listening for months that Ryanair will open a base and now its suddenly not the market .... Wizzair closed their base, now Ryanair pulling out .... hey maybe its some Viša sila perhaps.

09:30 Wizz just moved to Tuzla with an additional airplane, that was also at the end of Covid with a lot of uncertainty. No airport can expect to give 300k euros for a full season of flights (basing it on higher demand and less need to subside) when Tuzla gives 1M and Skopje gives 5-7M for the same. Where would you go as the W6 chief of operations?

DeleteThis very portal highlighted in 2024 that they received 40 million euros from the government for the period of 2012-2024. For 2025-2027 you'll find it at 9.4 million plus 9€ per every arriving passenger.

DeleteI don't see as bad thing to be honest. That airport is quite crowded and with times to go through passport control took over an hour for me. Hire more staff during peak hours or reduce amount of flights....just my two cents
ReplyDeleteYou waited that long because of slow operations during the peak hours not because its really crowded , and probably not even staff to cover the daily service. The airport is going down obviously and the numbers showing that so yes it is bad
