easyJet will restore flights between Berlin and Ljubljana during the 2027 summer season following a seven year hiatus. Services will commence on April 7 and operate twice per week, on Wednesdays and Sundays, with the Airbus A320 aircraft. The low cost carrier will face no direct competition on the route. easyJet previously maintained flights between the two capitals from August 2018. The airline initially operated three weekly services between Berlin Tegel and Ljubljana. Operations were disrupted by the coronavirus pandemic in 2020, after which the carrier discontinued the route. The new service forms part of easyJet’s renewed expansion in the Slovenian capital. The airline launched flights from Manchester in November 2025, followed by the introduction of services from Edinburgh in April this year. A new three weekly operation from London Luton will commence on October 26, complementing its longstanding flights from London Gatwick. With the addition of Berlin, easyJet will serve five destinations from Ljubljana during the 2027 summer season: Berlin, Edinburgh, London Gatwick, London Luton and Manchester.
easyJet is also in the process of acquiring Ljubljana-based aircraft maintenance provider Adria Tehnika from Czech investment fund Hartenberg Holding. The agreement was announced in December 2025, with the airline planning to bring more of its heavy maintenance operations in-house. easyJet has worked with Adria Tehnika for almost a decade, during which the Slovenian company has performed more than 200 heavy maintenance checks on its Airbus aircraft. Slovenia’s Competition Protection Agency approved the acquisition in February. However, its completion was delayed after the Kranj District Court temporarily prevented Hartenberg from disposing of its stake amid a dispute with a former minority shareholder over how the investment fund obtained full ownership of the maintenance provider
The Berlin announcement comes as the Slovenian government evaluates applications submitted under its latest tender aimed at improving the country’s air connectivity. Four bids were received by the August 31 deadline during the second round of the tenth public call. The identities of the applicants and their proposed routes have not been disclosed, while no official results have been announced.

Moreover, Fraport was mostly passive or even undermined the carriers' efforts. But fraport´s fan boys will tell you how there is no demand and how the airport´s operator has no role in bringing new routes. Do not forget how Fraport undermined Wizz´s base plan and how they did not care to even reply to Etihad´s correspondance.

2. The route was canceled because of the pandemic, not because there was too little demand.
3. The route is coming back after a few years operated by the same carrier.
Logical conclusion: The route was most likely successful before and a well run company such as easyJet sees opportunity to launch it again.
That's all we need to know, anyone saying other stuff without providing any real data or arguments is just trolling us. Don't let them enjoy it guys.
Famously all routes that were cancelled because of the pandemic never came back. Ljubljana-Berlin is not an exception because easyJet doesn't fly anywhere since the pandemic, they cancelled everything and are only now restoring it. There is lots of demand!

ReplyDeleteGreat, the missing links of Ljubljana airport have been filling in nicely lately, and we also got some out of the box additions, which proved successful. There is a few more routes which I would like to see added, such as ARN, TIA, OTP, Rome, Geneva or Basel for all the pharma industry, OPO is an unserved gem with no competition close to us (LJU could also catch people from other countries with that route), then also some capacity increases and a few more summer break routes with LCCs and we are pretty much set for now.

Deleteanon@14:26 W6 should definitely try OTP, however there are quite little ties between Slovenia and Romania, but 2x weekly should be a no brainer. I am more reserved regarding SOF. If there was at least some potential then INI-LJU should perform better, but from what I know, loads are not great, regardless of low (subsidised) fares.

DeleteI don't really like late evening flights. Arriving to Berlin at 23h and having to transfer to your hotel is not the best, also having to wait for the whole day after checking out to catch a flight back home at 20h.

DeleteApparently Ryanair is ending their 4x weekly service from Trieste to Berlin this year. Maybe that's why easyJet took the bait, the canceled route will leave leave a lot of the demand unserved.

ReplyDeleteKLM is very strong on this route, specially in summer with 2x daily, but it is also true that due to great loads with lots of transfer passengers, P2P fares are not really cheap, so there might be some room for at least 2x weekly.
DeleteKLM's load this summer is constantly between 90-95 %. It's crazy. We definitely need them to increase capacity nex year or easyJet to launch AMS as well.

DeleteI'd love that, cause it could bring great p2p & leisure options across Europe; that being said, given that EasyJet itself is getting acquired by Apollo PE fund, I am somewhat sceptical. Usually these funds will do quite aggressive optimization and maximization of returns. I am not sure LJU routes are among the most profitable, but then again - maybe they are :-D
