Air Serbia has temporarily suspended flights to Tel Aviv due to the worsening security situation in Israel. The carrier maintained four weekly rotations to the city, with services suspended until the end of November. Passengers with tickets booked on the route will be refunded. "Air Serbia continues to carefully monitor information regarding Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv and is in contact with all competent authorities. The Serbian national airline will immediately inform the public about the re-establishment of flights when conditions are met", the airline said. The Serbian carrier handled over 1.000 passengers on its Tel Aviv route since the escalation of violence in the country. It also operated two repatriation flights, one to Belgrade and the other to Skopje.
It is odd then why El Al are operating flights from and to Israel to many of its international destinations including Europe while other non-Israeli carriers no longer fly to and from Israel such as Wizzair for instance. The tourists are now currently panicking about Jordan and Egypt and whether it is safe or not. Yes, they are but still you know that the war is very close. JU may consider AMM or AQB as an alternative for the time being.
ReplyDeleteThat being said, El Al have created a very nice tool informing passengers about the real number of available seats during the upcoming days on both their inbound and outbound flights. Logically, flights from Israel have less availability but not always and the same applies for the flights to Israel:

Israelis have always been creative, organised and smart people, whatever they say.
Do remember, El Al is one of the only airlines with anti missile technology installed on aircraft.
DeleteIn ATH El Al , Arkia and Israir are still flying , I don't know for how long . Aegean stopped from the start of the conflict.
DeleteATH and LCA airports are used as points of transferring people wanting to leave Israel. Israeli airlines like the ones mentioned plus Israeli owned airline based in Greece and Cyprus carry them there and connect on.
DeleteDon’t take ATH as an example because ATH is now used as a transfer point for Israelis going to USA. Air Canada, Delta and United are adding extra flights with bigger planes and they extended seasonal flights while American flies B773 now to ATH instead of the B772.

DeleteI have flights to Jordan booked via Royal Jordanian, on my wait out I transit through Tel Aviv (RJ to Tel Aviv and then onto El Al) so I'm following closely. RJ hasn't suspended flights to Tel Aviv yet.

ReplyDeleteMEA is moving its fleet to be parked in LCA and IST while LH stopped flying because of the security situation.
I applaud JU for staying for as long as at all possible and then withdrawing in the interest of safety when that became necessary. They played this one well.
ReplyDeleteThe issue is both due to insurance and crew safety as crews on longhaul flights need a 24 or 48 hour rest period and the crews may not want to stay overnight in Tel Aviv. Short haul flights from Athens and Larnaca can run their flights round trip with the same crew in and out with minimal time on the ground.
ReplyDeleteTLV Ben Gurion airport is usually not being hit by rockets from Hamas/Gaza except during particularly intense barrages and when Hamas is willing to use its longer range rockets.
JU crew does not have a layover in Tel Aviv. It is a turnaround.
