Wizz Air has unveiled several new routes from both Skopje and Ohrid for the 2026 summer season. From March 30, the low cost carrier will launch flights from the Macedonian capital to Budapest and Naples, while new services from Ohrid to Milan Malpensa, Wroclaw and Katowice will follow in March and June, respectively. These additions come on top of the eight new routes the airline is set to introduce from Skopje over the next two months. All of Wizz Air’s new routes in Macedonia will be supported through state subsidies. Tickets are now available for purchase through the airline's website.
Route | Launch date |
---|---|
Skopje - Naples | MAR 30 |
Skopje - Budapest | MAR 30 |
Milan - Ohrid | MAR 30 |
Wroclaw - Ohrid | JUN 7 |
Katowice - Ohrid | JUN 8 |

Commenting on the new route additions, the CEO of airport operator TAV Macedonia, Nejat Kurt, said, “With our expanding route network, both Macedonian airports are strengthening their position as key gateways to Europe and beyond. These new services are the result of our close cooperation with the government and Wizz Air, aimed at improving travel and mobility opportunities for our citizens”. He added, “I am confident that destinations such as Naples from Skopje Airport, Milan and Wroclaw from Ohrid St Paul the Apostle Airport, as well as the return of Budapest from Skopje and Katowice from Ohrid, will be highly attractive to travellers and will further enhance the competitiveness of both airports in the region”.
Wizz Air previously maintained flights between Skopje and Budapest from April 2017 until March of this year. On the other hand, Naples will be served from the Macedonian capital for the first time. Wroclaw will also debut for the first time from Ohrid, while Milan was previously served between 2019 and 2021. With these latest additions, Wizz Air’s Skopje network will grow to 34 destinations next summer, while it will boast seven routes out of Ohrid.
wow Skopje will have huge passenger growth next year. Well done.
ReplyDeleteThey also mentioned this on their broadcast today they will offer 3.3 million seats in 2026 which is hugeeee numbers
DeleteThat 3.3M is just insanity! Let's say wizzair is 60 percent of the seats of Ohrid and Skopje, that's about 5.5M across both airports. Of course actual passenger counts will be lower, but 4M pax in 2026 seems a possibility for only Skopje if things continue like this.
DeleteJust really need that middle-east connection. Everything else would just be a bonus after that.
this is just brilliant
ReplyDeleteand fala bogu somebody thought about seasonal flights and im sure it was Wizzair themselves
Fala bogu nekoj konecno pocna da misli i raboti za avio soobrakajot vo Makedonija, oti ako prodolzevme so toa tempo od 2023-2024 ke bevme na dnoto pozicionirani zasekogas!!
DeleteDude do you know in what deep sh*t Wizzair was in 2023-2024?
DeleteGood to see them adding more leisure routes like Naples.
ReplyDeleteSkopje with this addition is doing amazing , what really missing now is Dubai or Doha , we dont have any middle east direct route , if we get one of them then we are all good set up👍 but Ohrid deserves more and more, and hopefully to see more routes
DeleteI was in Ohrid last weekend, it has great potential but unfortunately no real tourist plan. It needs to attract some major hotel brands and there are deserted hotels from old Yugoslavia which have very central location but are not working. The potential is there, just someone needs to work on it.
DeleteYes Ohrid missing new hotels of course world names. Some smart bussiness man from Ohrid this year decide to cut all inclusive service from Ohrid hotels and that stops alot of polish tour operator to come to Ohrid...
DeleteMajor hotel brands in Ohrid??? That would be the end of it
DeleteWhy the end? Depending what you want to attract, do you want to attract high profile guests or 18 yr old kids drinking whole night...
DeleteWell done Macedonia! Happy to see these routes from Ohrid!
ReplyDeleteBoth Skopje and Ohrid are growing which is amazing. Especially with Barcelona,Madrid,Naples,Bari,Lyon,Prague,Sttutgart ,Stockholm Arlanda we are getting alot of choices
DeleteMama mia Napoli, just in time for Elmas return to SSC Napoli ;)
ReplyDeleteNapoli worth visiting , on my bucket list fot sure!!!! Maybe will meet Elmas on the streets when I go there :D I am very happy for Naples to see from Skopje👏
DeleteA thank you for rejecting Ryanair :D
ReplyDeleteWizz air is our national carrier , we dont need Ryanair :D
DeleteGreat news for Skopje and Ohrid! Naples has been missing from the network, and it’s nice to see Budapest making a comeback. Wizz is really putting Macedonia on the map.
ReplyDeleteYes adding new routes and back previous ones is amazing. Also increassing current oned. 13 routes for one year is great. Also they will offer 3.3 million seats for 2026 which is impressive
DeleteI hope the government is getting value for money and that these routes will actually be sustainable without support.
ReplyDeleteno route is sustainable only because of support, its just a motivation to start
DeleteGovernment subsidies are fine because they bring long-term benefits.
DeleteMost of Wizz network in Macedonia is not subsided at all , so thats clear example that even without support the routes are still served.
DeleteWroclaw and Katowice from Ohrid are unexpected but interesting choices.
ReplyDeletepolish tourists
DeleteI think there used to be charters from Poland to Ohrid by LOT.
DeleteThere’s a big Polish community visiting Macedonia and tourists from Poland love Ohrid in summer.
DeletePolish tourists are growing in Ohrid every year , and yes this is good start for them to be able to come and visit Ohrid and Macedonia
Delete@19.14 stop lying and check the official monthly statistics.ä instead. The number of polish tourists have halved since 2019. Thats why this action
DeleteThis summer for example there wasn't a single charter from Poland to Ohrid. Maybe its because there is so much demand that's why LOT gave up.
DeleteHappy to see more options and it does not involve German market.
ReplyDeleteGermany is already very welll covered , what misses for now is Munich,Dusseldorf... I am also happy that new options are coming !!@
Delete34 destinations from Skopje next summer is impressive!
ReplyDeleteWill SKP be their biggest Balkan base? How many routes do they have in Bucharest and Sofia?
DeleteWizz offers 55 destinations from Tirana, so no, SKP will never be the biggest Balkan base.
DeleteTrue forgot about TIA.
DeleteBucharest is their biggest base with 17-19 aircraft based. After that is Tirana, then Sofia and then SKP in the Balkans.
DeleteSKP will have this year 6 A321neos and Varadi says for next year to base 7 or 8 planes...
DeleteOTP and BBU have impresive 21 planes!!!!!!!
DeleteYay happy BUD is back!
ReplyDelete+1
DeleteYay thankgod now I can vist Grujo more easily hahah jokes aside this is awesome news
DeleteWE all know its a political route but yeh stil very excited about every route
DeleteMaybe next they will stop LJU and start it again after one year so that they get subsidies…
ReplyDeleteIt seems to be a modus operandi for some airline. Like easyjet with Geneva-Skopje too.
DeleteIt shows that in future tenders the rule should be that only routes not operate for at least 2 or 3 years can be considered.
DeleteNext year Wizz is getting more new planes and the ones from maintrnance , so from 2026 we not suppoust to expect from them to cut a route and launch again for subsidies
DeleteThey are going to go back to 60% share in Skopje next year.
ReplyDeleteYes and they add 3.3 million abailable seats for 2026 which is impressive
DeleteI think SKP is the only European capital that has completely tied its existence to an LCC.
ReplyDeleteBratislava to a certain extent too.
DeleteYes but Bratislava has serious ops from several LCCs - Wizz, Ryan and Smartwings.
DeleteSerious ops?
DeleteAnd if it didnt it would have LJU numbers
Delete@ 18.24 considerable
DeleteIf that LLC brings good routes to our country and affordable prices , new planes , nobody cares for anything else. Of course we all wants flag carrier flights which will costs 5 or 6 timrs double then Wizz or any other LLC
DeleteThey need to try some other routes in UK as well beside London
ReplyDeleteVisas needed for UK. Not going to happen anytime soon.
DeleteThey should start flying to MAN for that. Dont think Liverpool or Leeds have the potential
DeleteWe can see new routes in UK only if visas for Macedonians is cancell , which we expect to happen in years coming
DeleteAnon 19:19, why do you believe the UK would lift visa requirements for us?
DeleteThere is talks undergoing in this moment , they are planing to lift visas for 3 categories citizens from Macedonia which is not so good explained , there is article for this on internet
Delete@21.13 dare to share?
DeleteI believe freeing visa is also possible with the current cooperation between the 2 governments. Don't forget the 6 billion credit line recently opened from UK to MKD.
DeleteFinally a direct connection to southern Italy.
ReplyDeleteBari enters the chat
DeleteTorino is in huge demand , 40k Macedonians leaves there and they dont have direct flight yet
DeleteYou have Milan next door
DeleteThey briefly had flights to Torino, but they removed them
DeleteThey should introduce Wien-Skopje instead of flying from Bratislava
ReplyDeleteOne of the previous ceos of the airport mentioned it's the airport's policy not to get LCC compete directly on routes already operated by legacy airlines.
DeleteOf course it doesnt make any sense to run a route that already is well maintain by flag carrier ....
Deletelol, as if the airport has any say in where Wizz will fly
Delete^ No, the CEO just made it up for your amusement.
Deleteso why are they flying from Vienna to Pristina then? when OS already is flying 2 times a day
DeleteIt is a completely different country. Read several times slowly what I wrote if you don't understand.
DeleteVIE-PRN is one of the busiest routes with 4 daily flights with 95%+LF.
DeleteSKP perhaps does not have that much demand to Vienna to keep both AUA and Wizz compete.
You have flights fron Ohrid too
Delete21:09 TAC make stuff up all the time for our amusement. If you knew anything about this business you'd know how much leverage airports have, and in particular ones managed by TAV in Macedonia - NONE.
DeleteZRH is operated by more than one airline
Delete^ read the original comment. They don't want to have LCC and legacy on the same route. Read 20 times if you need to. Slowly.
DeleteGreat to see Ohrid getting attention again. Hope Wizz keeps Milan longer than the last attempt.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if Naples will be seasonal or year round
DeleteAll this 5 routes are year round. They dont giwe subsidies for seasonal flights
Delete@19.22 Katowice and Wroclav are seasonal
DeleteIt's great to see Ohrid get more flights would be good to see atleast another 2 or 3 different routes in different countries started I've visited Ohrid and I feel like not enough people know about its beauty
DeletePlease return back the line Hanover-Skopje
ReplyDeleteWizz Air no longer flies to Hanover from any city so it's highly unlikely.
DeleteThey should look for people who live there. There are so many who come from North Macedonia and live in and around Hanover. I don't think the Macedonian diaspora lives in Naples, and I don't think people from Naples visit Macedonia. In my opinion, this line will be empty.
DeleteAman više so toj Hannover. You have Hamburg round the corner, they explained it to you Wizz is no longer present at that airport
Delete18:56 so by your opinion Wizz needs to open routes only where Macedonian diaspora lives ? What about people living in Macedonia?? Are you real for this ? We need leisure routes as well , Naples is main airport in that side of Italy and its amazing to be visited. Hanover is not operated by Wizz anymore from any airport
DeleteWhat's the problem with expressing my wish here? You also have the option of flying from Sofia to these lines. And it doesn't matter whether Wizz Air is present in Hanover. Hamburg is Hamburg, Hanover is Hanover. Naples is also close to Bari, and nevertheless, they opened this route.
DeleteThere is no problem at all , but you cannot look only for what you need or what some small diaspora people needs. We need diaspora routes but also leisure options , and this is what exactly Wizz doing right now.
Delete19:25 Then don't be surprised if passengers use Tirana or Pristina airports. You certainly haven't been on that route. The flight from Hanover to Skopje was always full. Above all, it was always the A321.And then we can talk about the Macedonian diaspora. There weren't just Macedonians, but also Albanians, Kosovo, Serbians, Germans, etc.
DeleteThe thing is Hanover cannot be served by Wizz , it could get launch by another airline, nice to see that addition I dont mind at all ,I am happy whem I see any new route from Macedonia. Hanover have huge balkan diaspora I have been there , but not by air , with a car
Delete@19.39 Hamburg is not even 2 hours away. Some can only dream of that...
DeleteOuch... the depature time Milan - Ohrid is painful - 5.55.
ReplyDeleteHappy to see all these routes. Well done.
No what is real painful is Airserbia 4:00 to Belgrade from Skopje , and Austrian departure time from Skopje 4:25 :D and you have Ajet to Ankara at 1:00 :D
DeleteSofia to Ohrid should work during the summer, at least twice a week
ReplyDeleteI dont think so , bulgarian tourists in Ohrid are very small portion and opposite also , will not work even as seasonal. Ohrid is targeting UK,Polish,German tourists , as well Turkish , missing also Israeli tourists...
DeleteWith this additions Wizz Air will have 21 departures per day from SKP next summer season, this they had max of 15 per day.
ReplyDeleteMore then half of the airport departures will be by Wizz which is huge addition , they also saying and more routes are coming...🫣
DeleteNot true, this summer on Mondays there are 40 departures, 15 of which are by Wizz, that's not 50%. Next year again on Mondays Wizz will have 21 departures but there is additional 25 from other carriers which again doesn't make 50% or more than 50%.
Delete21 departures with six aircrafts, thats a bit too much if they have mostly 3 rotations per aircraft.
Delete@11.53
DeleteI would assume some flights might be operated from different bases. E.g. Poland-Ohrid flights are for sure operated by PL based planes.
Why not Ohrid-Malmö then?? (Im not the one that always brings in this route in the comments)
ReplyDeleteI also see BER and CRL as seasonal routes and one of ZAG/LJU
Wizz does not fit into Fraports business model.
DeleteThere will be more routes to Ohrid , this is just start. Malme will come on the list one day for sure.
DeleteLondon Luton even Gatwick to OHD in summer will also work 2 to 3 times per week.
DeleteLisbon would have been an even more attractive flight route.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely agree. It is such a beautiful city. Went there last year via Frankfurt.
DeleteLisbon will work great from Skopje. Palma or Tenerife would be nice addition too
DeleteAre actually any frequency increases planned on existing routes?
ReplyDeleteThey opened five new routes today, but will probably reduce a few current routes. Typical Wizzair, don't be surprised later.
DeleteThe low-cost carrier will add one additional weekly flight when compared to the previous winter on routes to Beauvais, Friedrichshafen, Milan Malpensa, Malta and Gothenburg, bringing each to three weekly rotations. Furthermore, an extra one to two weekly flights, depending on the month, will be introduced on services to Basel, for a total of eleven weekly, and Berlin, which will operate five times per week.
DeleteThey just reduced London luton which they did to all ex yu network
With this ever expanding network you might think that everyone from Macedonia is busy either taking a flight to Villariba or one to Villabajo..
ReplyDeleteWith all this additions as planned Ohrid will have 12 routes next year. And this Octomber Freebird charters are starting too. Happy to see this. Also getting main cities airports is great to see too!
ReplyDeleteFreebird are staying in Skopje
DeleteDidnt the minister announce they are going to Ohrid ?
DeleteIt was weird for me too knowing the terminal building reconstruction is starting this Octomber in Ohrid
I checked the program of the tour company and everywhere it says flights to/from Skopje. However the number of flights has increased (3 more countries than in the first round)
DeleteProbably they changed their plans , Ohrid is going under construction from Octomber no make sense , so they are staying at Skopje... yes they add Vienna and Brussels , who is the 3th one ?
DeleteDenmark
DeleteI am happy to see Wizz air is coming back stronger and stronger at Macedonia with all this new addtions to both airports!! But we are still missing Middle east connection :( I hope our minister will bring at least 1 route Dubai or Doba or Abu dhabi. So far he is doing amazing job,he brings more routes in just 1 year then all other previous ministers together...
ReplyDelete+1
DeleteIn the New Route Launch section, 26 out of 40 new routes are Wizzair. Naught from Ex-Yu region airlines.
ReplyDeleteWizz air will be dominant in Ex yu im years that coming. Just see how many airports in germany Ryanair left, also very fresh they left some other country because of the taxes, in that case Wizz not leaving any airport for tax purposes, they could leave only without real demand or aicraft issues they currently fac with..
DeleteJust wondering what public call this is based on to support seasonal routes. This is intransparent af.
ReplyDeleteAlso TK turning the route into seasonal...
It was reported months ago here that TK's OHD route has been downgraded to seasonal. It was originally scheduled in winter.
DeleteTK dowgrade Ohrid because of no demand for winter , they will just recieve money for months they are operating from March until Octomber. This is the only route with this public calls to do this scenario. All others are year round Wizz,Easjet,Lufthansa...
DeleteThe point is they disqualified themselves for support with that...
DeleteYoi have ruled or you are pretending to have rules
DeleteYes and the think is they still will operate the route from March 2026 without government support..
DeleteThis is great news! I am very happy that new lines are going to be added.
ReplyDeleteHopefully they are going to make a public transport shuttle bus from Ohrid airport to Ohrid. There is no way to reach the airport except by taxi and I've heard that taxis ask for 35€ for a 15 minute drive. Maybe even include a stop at the airport for the bus lines from other cities, like Flixbus. It should not be necessary to get family members to take you to the airport or pay expensive taxis...
Nevertheless, I'm happy that hew things are being done
There are fixed prices for taxis from the airport, have a look at the airports webpage
DeleteYay how exciting although I would prefer a variety of airlines working in Macedonia but non the less im grateful for the new additions from wizzair. Now the country just needs a middle east connection and possibly a couple more leisure routes and we good
ReplyDelete+1
DeleteI hope we will see at least one middle east route , that is what really missing skopje at this moment
DeleteGrateful to Skopje Airport for providing some leisure destinations.
ReplyDelete- A guy from Prishtina
Fake comment
Delete@ 10:29 A very sincere comment from my side, actually.
Deleteyou are more than welcome. Enjoy the routes <3
DeleteYou are welcome our neighbour!!!
Delete@9:47 +1
DeleteIn last five years I also have flown more from SKP than PRN even though I literally live 15 min from PRN. And they all were leisure destinations.
19:21 especily now with madrid, barcelona, prague, bari, naples, larnaca you will have more options for leisure routes from Skopje too.
DeleteThose connections to Poland to Ohrid will be a hit. Very smart.
ReplyDeleteIt is shame that hoteliers in Ohrid are not up to the standard to follow these developments.
but its exactly these hoteliers that made pressure foor these two routes.
DeleteHoteliers in ohrid cut all inclusive service this summer , thats why alot of uk , polish and german tour operators cancells planned tour this summer , because some smart ass do this stupid move. Hopefully from next summer this will not happening again
Deletelol gluposti
DeleteIts not gluposti , just google it and you will see. This info was also shared in one of the newa television article in June. There was no any all inclusive option for polish tour operators and thats why the cancell their planned vacations tbis summer with LOT airline
DeleteSo much joy and happy comments about Skopje getting some new lines, is there really that much of a crisis with Skopje for all this applause?
ReplyDeletehave you been sleeping the last two years and the Wizz engine crisis never happened? :)
Deletenot a crisis but an exhausting status quo
Skopje with the previous government minister just went down and down. After the covid19 when all nearby airports start rising skopje airport was still sleeping , the previous minister didnt know do we have an airport or not... finally skopje is on the road where it needs to be , growing and new routes!!
Deleteand Wizz was not hit with half their engines out of service? Svasta procitas ...
DeleteYes wizz air engine issues was one of the problems for low passengers numbers but was not the number 1 reason. 7 years of not doing anything for both airports cannot be replaced by night and we cannot blame Wizz air for this. Finally things are going up and good years especially for Skopje is yet to come!!!
Deletefrom polish travel agencies I see monday charters from KTW to OHD maybe they will be back as well
ReplyDeleteWhich airline will be operating them?
DeleteOhrid Malmo…
ReplyDeleteJust patience , will come , this is just beggining from Wizz air. There wi be more and more new routes as well previous ones added in months coming. They know our market what really needs and whats in demand , problem is still aircrafts avaiability. Next year they will recieve brand new as well maintenance ones will be in operation!!
DeleteI'm wondering, what is the passenger capacity in Skopje? Was it not designed for 4m pax?
ReplyDeleteAnd time for SKP to do something about the fog and upgrade their ILS system.
im stil puzzled how SPU managed all these masses with the old building
DeleteSkopje passengers capacity is 4 million people. Now newest thing is they aradding some more spaces and increasing capacity by removing office spaces that were just next to passport control area for departure. With this planned remove they will increase passport control for departure, space for one restaurant as well adding more lanes to scanning machines also with a new machine for luggage scan. With this their planned increase should be on around 4.5 million passengers. Also the airport now have 32 counters for check in
DeleteEven after this very big problem is still fog from January until end of March , for now there is no info they are doing something about this issue wich causing alot of delays and cancelled flights
