NEWS FLASH
Norwegian Air Shuttle and Iberia were the only two carriers to apply for the third tender call issued by the Slovenian government for airlines to introduce new routes to the country in return for subsidies lasting over a period of three years. As recently reported by EX-YU Aviation News, Norwegian will introduce services from Copenhagen to Ljubljana next year, entering the Slovenian market for the first time, while Iberia plans to commence operations between Madrid and the Slovenian capital, marking its return following short-lived seasonal summer flights maintained between the two cities back in 2021. The state has allocated 16.8 million euros in subsidies divided over three years, or 5.6 million euros per year.

ReplyDeleteDespite being very happy for Norwegian and Iberia, I simply cannot believe that no LLC applied. Ryanair is launching flights left and right and somehow Ljubljana is still not viable for them…very strange.

Typical of people on this forum to make fun of others but be clueless themselves. Iberia has lots of international routes from BCN. Budapest, New York, Buenos Aires, Helsinki, Los Angeles, Boston, etc

DeleteNorwegian and Iberia are not selected for subsidies yet. They were the only two that applied. The ministry is now checking eligibility.
DeleteSo there will be AirBaltic fights to Riga, Norwegian to Copenhagen and Iberia to Madrid and all year round as it is a rule to have flights subsided…(if the government approves Iberia and Norwegian ofc).. also Corendon announced regular flights to Antalya and Heraklion so there will be quite a few new additions…it’s not too bad if you ask me but there are still some missing connections such as Bucharest, Vienna, Lisbon, Prague and maybe Dublin/Manchester or Doha….

DeleteI used to travel between LJU and Berlin quite a bit before Covid, and I remember EasyJet flights always being absolutely packed. I wonder why they haven’t restored those.
DeleteAnd if I am correct I think that Zagreb doesn’t have the Berlin flights as well so it would be a great if at least one of the two airports got them…
DeleteExactly. Both airports share some catchment area and I commonly see Croats on LJU-LUX flights. I’m sure same would happen with flights to Berlin.

DeleteIt fluctuates depending on the day of the week. September ones have been full, but lately esp. on Thursdays the plane was half empty. I think over a year it’ll average out to a solid 75-80%
